  1. Unfortunately, Georgia started the conflict.  Russia was waiting like a wolf at the door to do something and now they have.  They are attacking without abandon.  This is the way we should have done in Iraq and Afghanistan.  They are flexing their muscle and challenging the world to do something.  Send a message to the World.

Yes the whole world will sit on their hands and do nothing.  Very much like the start of WW II.

  2. Russia claims they are only out to "liberate" the sections of South Ossetia. Yet they have pushed far beyond that. It is plain to see they intend on taking the entire country of Georgia over. I believe this is the beginning of the rebirth of the old Soviet Union.

  3. Russia knows no one is going to interfere, so it's going to be another Poland and Russia will probably wind-up re-annexing Georgia.

  4. I don't think there's much oil in Georgia so I suppose the rest of the world will just tut and shake their head like they do at Zimbabwe

  5. Both provinces want to separate from Georgia. It is very easy to get well informed:

'South Ossetia (...) is a region in the South Caucasus, formerly the South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast within the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic. A part of it has been de facto independent from Georgia since it declared independence as the Republic of South Ossetia early in the 1990s during the Georgian-Ossetian conflict. The capital of the region is Tskhinvali.

The independence has not been diplomatically recognized by any member of the United Nations – which continues to regard South Ossetia as part of Georgia. Georgia has retained control over parts of the region's eastern and southern districts where it created, in April 2007, a Provisional Administrative Entity of South Ossetia[...] headed by ethnic Ossetians (former members of the separatist government) which would negotiate with central Georgian authorities regarding its final status and conflict resolution.'

    And:

'Georgia began an offensive to regain control over South Ossetia overnight Friday with heavy shelling and air strikes that ravaged the city of Tskhinvali. The Russia response was swift and overpowering — thousands of troops that shelled the Georgians until they fled Tskhinvali on Sunday, and air attacks across Georgia.'

If Kosovo got its independence, others can too.

  6. Russia is wrong, we're already meddling in the war, and I fear it may grow to be more than that. Russia has for the last time hurt innocent lives. We must stop this horror that Russia is committing. Even though the USSR is dead, the cold war attitude has not. I never trusted the Russian government and never will. We must preserve freedom at all costs.
