Will the wildfires affect the commute to Mexico this weekend?

Okay I'm trying to do my research but I can really find anything stating that the fires are affecting the commute to Mexico. I have a bus tour I will be attending this weekend (Saturday) and I just want to make sure that the wildfires in San Diego will not affect my commute i.e.......cancel the trip, get stuck over there, or anything of that sort. Can anyone please help me make sure things will go smoothly??? Thanks

  1. The freeway through Camp Pendelton was open last night. However, a call to your travel agent or bus company would give you a current update. Lots of tour buses on the road yesterday. Remember, nothing in life can be guaranteed to go smoothly.

  2. As of this morning 10/24, the 5 was closed down all the way from San Clemente to Pendleton due to the Oceanside fire.  There are also some closures near the 5 and 78.

  3. It depends on where you are going in Mexico. Conditions change rapidly and by this weekend, everything could be fine.

I've been reading the Telemundo news online, and did see that the Tecate border crossing is closed, the San Diego border is open, but very smokey and slow, and there is currently a fire causing closures on the Ensenada-Bufadora highway (just south of the city of Ensenada).

The best bet is to check with the travel company as they will have the latest road information - and wait it out until tomorrow or Friday to see if things get better. Do plan on being prepared for smokey conditions, especially if you have respiratory problems like asthma. I am hearing that the area between Tijuana and Rosarito is covered in ash.

Hope your trip turns out OK. I'm in the same boat wondering if I should make the trip or not, and if friends in Ensenada are OK.

  4. Seems it would make sence to call the bus company to find their schedules. It may change from now till then. If it was cancelled I would want to know asap...

  5. Traffic on the freeways in San Diego is bad on ordinary days (Not down to Los Angeles standards, but still far from wonderful.)  Looking forward to the weekend is pure speculation at this point.  If the fires are under control, things should be semi-normal.

  6. h**l Yes it will!!!!!!!!! Some freeways are closed so it's gonna be a bad time to go up there.
