Its impossible to know for sure, buy yes, it is highly likely that the world will end.  The most likely cause of our demise will be the formation of microscopic black holes by the LHC.  While some scientists believe that these will evaporate quickly into nothingness, the more intelligent scientists have been able to conclusively show that these black holes will quickly accumulate mass by absorbing the very electromagnetic radiation that the LHC produces.  This will cause them to fall towards the center of the earth and hollow it out, eventually causing the earth to be completely sucked into the black hole.  but I wouldn't worry too much about that because you will be killed by the intense radiation several hours before that actually happens.

  24. Actually david b there IS a much bigger than an infinitesimally small chance of it happening. But much bigger than infinitesimally small is still very very small. As one physicist put it, there is a similar chance that a giant green fire-breathing dragon will be created inside the LHC, but nobody seriously expects that to happen.

    This is real and this is scary stuff ! I even remember a doc which depicted all the REALISTIC possible scenarios for doomsday- this was one of them.
