Will the world end in 12/12/12?

Question

my birthday is on 12/11.

so to hear that the world is going to end the day after my birthday is not so exciting as it sounds. :)

so will it really end on december 12th 2012.

please give explanations?

PS: Too all Maya calender fighters: The Maya Ba'ktun will end around the 21st December 2012, not the 12th. And because the counting of the day is not clear, it could in reality happen somewhere around this day, without us really knowing. The Mayas stopped using this calender 1000 years ago and did not update it themselves.

why 2012?

The Long (outdated) Count Calendar of the Ancient Mayans ends on Dec 21 2012. There isn't much information regarding what the Mayans thought would occur in 2012, but the consensus of opinion is that there will be great change. To some people this means a positive, spiritual change. Other, like myself, consider that a catastrophic event may have been predicted.

i go told it was gonna happen in the year 2000 milenieum wich was 8 years ago and i got told a commet was gonna hit us, wich then missed uss, so  whats after 12/12/12???   31/11/13 is the next one lol ,, i dont no if there is 31 days in november but if there isint shush and quit rewin for every one

the 12/12/12 represents the end of the Mayan Calendar. In the Mayan calendar system they had cycles much bigger than a year, and that date marks the end of the biggest one. The same way we usually build calendars until the end of a year, they built their to the end of that particular cycle. They did not believe the world would end after this cycle, and there's no reason for us to believe that either.

There is a myth that the Mayan calendar will end it's 5000 years cycle on 12/21/2012, and this means that the WHOLE UNIVERSE will be destroyed and started all over again.  The Mayans "know" that happened because it happened before.  Of course, there are no real Mayans around any more . . . .

if it happened before, it would have happened 5000 years ago -- the world and the whole universe would have been destroyed.

So how do we find caveman bones and dinosaur fossils that are hundreds of thousands of years old?  Wouldn't those thing have been destroyed 5000 year ago, too??

This whole Mayan cvalendar myth is just a story that someone has made up to scare little children, and those people that are too unintelligent to think better.

No. That is just the end of the Mayan calender, same as ours ends every Dec 31. If the Mayans were still around they would just start marking the days again as we start to do on Jan 1. We used the sun, they used a different star and that accounts for the difference.

No. There's the chance that a certain day of any year will be the end of the world, but come on. Nothing bad is going to happen in 12/12/12 (unless another of them pandemics strikes us), and with the ridiculous chances and no concrete scientific evidence, I'd say that it's a no.

Don't be naive or superstitious about it. Why people nowadays believe in the Mayan calendar? They need to stick to their own religion. The Mayan calendar may not be true. And I agree with Gary B. So, just don't believe in this and believe what your religion says.

Well, for starters, the current doomsday prediction du-jour is December 21 2003, not Dec 12. Dec 21 is the northern winter solstice, an apparently extra-scary day.....

The 2012 myth is total bunk with no foundation in scientific principles at all. The only "certain" end of the Earth known to science currently is when the Sun will expand into a red giant, but that's not scheduled for another 4 billion years, so you can relax about that one. 2012 is the year they picked because it's when the Mayan calendar runs out... Simply turn back to page 1 of Mayan calendar after that since it's a new cycle.

The only other remotely-scientific end of the world prediction is an impact of a large meteor. There's a close call with Apophus in the late 2020's but other than that, we don't see any doomsday asteroids coming right now.

Just look at the date. If the world were going to end, would it pick a day with such a cool date? That would be an enormous coincidence.

Isn't it much more likely that some human picked the date because it is cool, and made up a story about it?
