  1. Well, Oliver Cromwell didn't want one and he beat the then king and became President for a few years. But then he got be-headed and since then there has always been a King or Queen.

Nowadays, it's only really a hereditary title really so Yes, I think there will be. Until Jesus returns to reign over us that is.

  2. Actually, there is no longer a King or Queen of England, there is only a King or Queen of the United Kingdom. The last reigning monarch of England was Queen Anne and she died almost 200 years ago. The current British monarch is Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, and she never held the title "Queen of England", this title has been long extincted since the Act of Union of 1707.

Most people seems to make the common mistake of using the term "English" and "British" interchangeably when referring to the British monarchy. The British rule started in the early 18th century, when England and Scotland was united as a single state. Monarchs from then on were referred to as "British monarchs." Prior to that, it was known as the English rule, with an "English monarch" on the throne.

  3. Hopefully not

  4. that would be Britain right???

  5. Not if I've got anything to do with it

  6. I hope so----------Long Live the Queen!!

  7. Yes, unfortunately. The royals are related to historic despots who made Robert Mugabe look like a saint. We now have to doth our caps to their descendants.

The notion that a monarch prevents a despotic president is completely flawed, what if the royal was a despot? They control the army and are not accountable to the people, sounds very dangerous to me.

  8. One would think so.  The line has managed to perservere through so much so far, one would hope that they would manage to hang on, no matter what else comes their way.

  9. A lot of folk, including myself, always want there to be a monarchy here in UK.  In spite of our oft expressed wish for a republic.

    Reason.

So long as the Monarchy supply the 'head of state' for UK - no bombast, or dictator can ever have that job.

In Spain a few years ago, the Guarda Civil tried to take over the country, mounting a coup and taking over the Spanish Parliament, The Cortes.

The Spanish Communist Party mounted a guard around the King's palace in Madrid (HM King Juan Carlos) thus preventing any attack upon the palace or the King's person.

The King dressed as an army officer, went on TV and told the Spanish people that he was their protector and their King and that no one would ever take their liberty away from them.

The King of Spain, Juan Carlos, later called the Spanish Communist Party, "The Royal Communist Party of Spain."

GOD SAVE THE KING OF SPAIN.

    LONG LIVE THE QUEEN

  10. unless we have a revolution,then yes....<^><..

  11. Probably not....  for various reasons... anti moarchy demonstrations, republic fans, taxes....

  12. I hope so

  13. There is no King or Queen of England, there is a Queen of the UK which inluded England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In fact it doesn't even mention England, the full title is Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

However, the Republican movement in the UK is still very small and makes itself appear bigger by being very vocal. There is no great Republican movement in the country and until they have a politcal voice and a majority of public support the monarchy will remain. I'd rather have a hereditary Head of State than another lying politician (can you imagine Gordon Brown as President?)

  14. Unless we have a rebellion and turn into a republic like the time of Charles1 + II and James II and Oliver Cromwell which seems unlikely
