  1. There have been big ones and there will be more.

And no, California will not sink.

  2. It has been predicted that California will eventually detach itself from North America, and become an Island. However, it will not happen anytime soon! I don't believe it will be caused only from one large earthquake, rather a lot of small ones. I have also heard that volcanic eruptions will have something to do with it as well.

So yes, California will detach itself from North America, but it has no current plans of sinking from one "super big" earthquake. It will not sink. It will only become an island (much like Hawaii) in the Pacific Ocean.

    Does that help?

  3. No don't worry not in near future.

  4. They predicted a 6 pointer within the next 6 months on the news, that does not mean that it is actually going to happen at that time it can happen before or after. And it may not be as bad as a 6 pointer or it may be worse. Earthquakes are are caused by sudden fractures made in the fault which cause the shaking on the surface because of the movement of the plates. We cannot predict or warn ahead of time when a random fracture is going to happen to a particular part of a fault. We can tell you that most earthquakes tend to happen near fault boundaries.
