One of my friends told me that people will start getting drafted into the war. I want someone to answer this question and prove it in their own way. I am confused about it and I really dont want to waste time fighting a country that we messed up (Gotta finish what "we" started..bs). This is what happens when you have a "superpower"nation such as the US and its stupid idiotic presidency with George W. Bush. If we pull out now Iraq will be politcally and economically destroyed. Its pretty stupid that we started this whole war anyways. We even went off topic too. At first we were looking for Osama Bin Laden, then we start sayin "ohh there are terrorists in Iraq" we go there we mess it up. Now we are telling Iran to stop their nuclear productivity..**** that. Let em do what they want. Now when i watch tv there isnt as much of Osama news as there used to be after 9/11.

  1. No one really wants to institute a draft; it's political suicide.  Hopefully, troop reductions will begin to occur from Iraq before any other skirmishes start to escalate.

  2. Already stretched to the max, in the worst case scenario how do you intend to fight terrorism. Admiral Mullen said US can not afford to open up an other front. Troops in Afghanistan have been ordered to serve an extra month, more troops are required urgently. So how do you think this vacuum will be filled.

Senator McCain has clearly hinted, that if it comes to it he would definitely reinstate draft. The pattern is repeated through out history, Imperialism comes at a cost.

Even better question is, 'How does US intend to find money to fight the war'. US economy is in recession, dollar is weak, highest deficit in history, trillion of dollars worth of debt. The cost of Iraq war now has reached over half a trillion, and is being paid for by borrowing money from China. So where is the money going to come from.

I think it's time to set your own house in order, and time to end meddling in others affairs!

  3. Most likely no, in fact there are so many recruits coming in that the higher ups are telling the recruiters to downsize on how many are coming in. Less than 30% of the military is even over Iraq etc... there are lots and lots of spots filled already.

They most likely will never need to do a draft again, atleast not in the near future.

  4. Why with the war in Iraq winding down?  Regardless of who's elected- troop standdowns will being.  Even the Iraqi's are confident enough to push for US withdrawal-a first.

    Other reasons

1- DoD DOESN"T WANT YOU.  There's no way that DoD could ramp fast enough for the influx of draftees.  Over, and over, and over again military members have said they prefer to be stretched working with the best folks-than have people who don't want to be there

2- The draft is a holdover from WW2/Korea.  That's second-generation force-on-force combat.  We don't fight that way anymore

3- Political suicide.  No one would vote for it.

Maybe you should start watching the news, and doing some investigation for yourself instead of relying on your friends to do your analysis for you.

  5. First off, what does your friend know about reinstating the draft? The military is currently meeting its recruiting goals, therefore it doesn't need a draft. Not that us in the military would want one. Those of us currently serving know how detrimental it would be to morale and discipline (like we don't have enough to deal with, with the kinder gentler military) if we had service members who forced into the military.

Finishing what we started is not "bs" as you put it. We DO have a moral obligation to ensure that we do not leave behind a terrorist breeding ground when we do finally leave Iraq or Afghanistan.

The rest of your "question" isn't really a question at all and I see no point in arguing with you over it. You really should look up the MANY reasons we went to Iraq for.

  6. If there is a draft, I guarantee it will cause the war to come to a screeching halt.  The only reason the war has gone on this long is that most Americans are completely unaffected by it, and the soldiers are all volunteers.  If the average American kid was being forced to go to fight in Iraq, people would rapidly apply pressure to end the war.

  7. We need to realize as a nation that fighting evil with evil is pointless.  We call them evil, but in their eyes, we're the evil ones.  Iraqi civilians and babies did not bomb the towers---yet they paid the price with their lives.  Is that not an evil act?

If they start a draft I am so outta here!  This war is SO wrong---to force kids to go and die over there is ludicrous!

  8. It's already out of hand. Somebody please point to "Terror" on the map for me. I can't find it.

  9. whatever you believe in` your country still needs a defence and therefore needs people to be in the forces! Goverment policies come and go but the nation as a whole stays forever if people like yourself are willing to defend it.

Me personally would go and join the Jamaican army where you could party all the time and bollox to the rest of the world.

  10. Your "friend" doesn't know what he is talking about. This war does not require massed arrays of troops going up against similar massed arrays of troops. It is a war of small unit tactics (squad to platoon size) where those units seek out Beyit Al Shuhada (Martyrs' Houses) looking for the Hirabah (terrorists) and killing or capturing them.

All branches of the military have met or exceeded their enlistment and retention quotas since the attack on America. So, if you want to join or not, that is your decision. The only elected official interested in restoring the draft wants it because of the high unemployment rate among 18-26 year old males in his district.

Here's some advice. Quit watching TV reports on the Long War. Not one of those reporters knows one word of Arabic. The ones in the "war zone" in Iraq are mostly holed up in the Palestine Hotel in Baghdad's Green Zone. Most of them are graduates of university-based schools of journalism where the only skill they gained was how to read and write press releases. If they did know anything, they would have given you the reasons for our military operations in Iraq. Check the link below. Begin reading after the first "whereas". It might clear up some of your confusion.

  11. A draft is only called upon if there is a sever lack of troops. As per the other posts, we have met or exceeded recruiting goals.

BUT... at age 18 every male in the U.S. is required by law to register for the draft. So once you are 18 you could be drafted if need be.
