With the new scoring system in the olympics, do you think a "perfect 17" is feasible? I think some chinese girl got 16.9 on the uneven bars, and an american got 16.8, but will a 17 be scored in the future?

  1. I think the point of the new system is to decrease the chance of a perfect score, such that there would be bigger gaps between scores so that it's easier to tell who's better.  The scoring system in diving makes it almost impossible to receive a perfect score, and I think gymnastics was trying to follow suit.  If they are successful, there may not be a perfect score ever again.

  2. My concern is that there will be a more than perfect score...........and it will be made by an exploited child

  3. NO.  The judges don't even award perfect 10.0's for the execution part of the score in this new scoring system.

  4. I doubt it.  Now it's all about tricks without artistry.

  5. The new system is encouraging gymnast to perform high difficulty routine. It is for making the sport more entertainment and also make the scoring system more flexible by dividing it into diffculty and execution parts. The new scoring system is not “messed up” as some brainwashed fans suggested, on the contrary, it is just more subjective and fair than the old system.

Since A score can be changed, in theory, there is no max score. E.g, 6.5 is max in women vault now, if more gymnasts can get a 16.5, someone eventually will invent more diffcult vault and the max pts will be pushed up.

  6. with the new, messed up scoring... not a chance.

  7. You can get higher than a 17. If the A score is 7+ and the B score is a perfect 10.

  8. Yes I think it will happen

  9. You can still get a perfect 10 in execution. The B score.

The A score can be whatever they make it. I mean some of these gymnasts could probably get a perfect 10 if they took a 5.0 or lower A score, but then it would only be worth 15.0 when other girls could do a 6.5 and beat them with a 9.000 execution score.

It will be a while before we see a perfect 10 because they need to perform the harder routines to be sure not to be left behind, but it has raised the bar of expectation on the olympic stage - and as the worlds "Elite Gymnasts", this is not necessarily disagreeable. At that level, they should be able to perform 6.5s and 7.7s
