It appears there IS a war between Russia & Georgia, and I pray the US doesn't get involved.

There is a war between Russia and Georgia.  The US will offer political and diplomatic support as well as money, weapons, and other indirect aid to Georgia.

There has been for several years now, over 2 disputed provinces.

This violence is just an extension of what everyone saw before as diplomacy.

Georgia officially declared war today.

What the US will do really depends on how things shape up in the next few days. If things seem to quite down, we may just act as one of the many 3rd parties working for a cease-fire.

If things do not settle down, NATO or the UN may decide to weigh in with force. If it is the UN, it will be a peacekeeping mission (just like Cosovo and Somalia). If NATO gets involved with force, we will likely be joining the fight against Russia, siding with the future NATO member or Georgia.
