  1. The information technology and the absence of trade barriers unlike to Smoot Hawley Trade Limitation law of the 1920 and 30s which destroyed global trade and made fewer goods available to to be bought or traded.

  2. The UN reported that last month there were over 850 Million people goining hungary around the world.

I would be more wooried about food riots and gas riots

  3. we already are in a depression

  4. doubt it. although since the first great depression we have had 5 depressions. we don't find out until after they happen though. we have safety nets in place to prevent another great depression.FDIC etc

  5. Honestly couldn't tell you...I'm expecting a lot of banks to fail though...(IndyMac already has).

  6. Not likely.  Truthfully, the economic indicators are not really that bad.  Unemployment figures are better now than they were in the last years of the previous administration.

What's probably freaking people out, including your Dad, is that some people have over-extended themselves in the Housing Market which is affecting housing values and the price of energy.

We haven't had a single quarter of negative growth and it take two consecutive to have a Recession.  A Great Depression is far worse.

What really sucks is that your Dad has spent all this time trying to get ahead and the current situation makes it feel like he's getting nowhere.

As for the Stock Market, long-term investments always go up.  The economy even recovered after the Great Depression of the 1930s.
