Ant D ran into a groundhog at last year's edition if I am not mistaken. And pictures of a groundhog were taken at the track. (I saw them on motorsport.com).

Do you think they'll be invading the track again?

Why are they there anyway? To watch the race?

  1. Uh rosbif....you forgot one thing......the track in Montreal is a park, visited by, guess what, humans, the rest of the year.  Kinda throws that theory out the window doesn't it??

John R.....BEAUTIFUL car in your avatar!!!!!

Do I think they'll invade the track again??  It's possible, but it was probably more of a one-off.  I think that groundhog learned it's lesson.....LOL!!!!!  At least it's not a deer problem, like they had at Pocono Raceway years and years ago (mid-'80's IIRC), or Sea Gulls like at Daytona.

Why are they there?  It's THEIR home, not ours.

Edit - There was a groundhog (or whatever) on the track today.  I heard tell that he was wanting an autograph, but decided better of it once he found out Matt Kenseth wasn't in the field.

BTW...the above was a joke....a fan ran out on the track last year during a red flag period at the race at Watkins Glen, and tried to get an autograph from driver Matt kenseth.

  2. The Saturday qualifying session was visited by a beaver in 1985, resulting in yellow flags all over the place.

There is so little racing at Montreal that the animals get used to not having humans about. It's really F1 invading their home, not the animals invading the F1 track.

    EDIT @HMS/JGrace/etc

A public park doesn't have grand-prix size crowds every weekend, does it now? It certainly doesn't have cars charging around at 200mph+. Rather fewer people and a LOT fewer race cars and other vehicles for 50 weeks of the year, non?

Guess what (I really don't like that phrase...so patronising), if anything, your "contribution" proves my theory, rather than disproves it.

  3. i need 2 know how to get them too

  4. i dont know about groundhogs in canada but the track that i race karts at in the U.S. there is a ground squirrel problem and at least one gets hit every race.i hit one with my kart and it has ground effects front nose that flips them up in the air.i have almost been hit in the helmet by one.it makes racing interesting.we also have a big jack rabbit that likes to race the karts on the side of the track.
