  1. I have to go with Anthony G here.  Ali wasn't that great.  As a young fighter he was impressive, but he was jailed in what would have been the prime of his career.  When he came back he was a diminished fighter and had some narrow wins against lackluster opponents and a loss to ken norton.  He didn't get a title shot for four more years.

Ali is justly famous for his heart and his personality.  He fought three wars against joe frazier, fought with a broken jaw against ken norton, and gave us the rumble in the jungle, a triumph of sports psychology.  Nobody gave Ali a chance against George Foreman.  But for using the rope a dope to let foreman punch himself out he wouldn't have had one.  Ali would provoke his opponents with trash talk outside of the ring and distract them with his elusive and flamboyant style in it.  He is certainly one of the greatest heavyweights, but he was the greatest gamesman and self promoter in the sport where these are of the greatest benefit.

  2. i hope not. that guy sucked!

  3. No, Ali was unique.

First, he became a household name due to his charisma, politics, and entertainment value.

Second, his speed, long reach, toughness, and ring savvy make him easily one of the best boxers of all time.

Now that he is not boxing, it is easy to forget how good he was in the ring. As a pure boxer, he did not possess the raw power of Joe Lewis, Jack Dempsey, Mike Tyson, or George Foreman.

However, he was, without any question, the fastest heavyweight in history, and that, with an unusually long reach.  Before his layoff due to the draft, the prime Ali was unbeatable.

He could also take a punch like no other boxer in history, and in the end, that is what has caused his pugilistic Parkinson's disease. Ali would fight hurt, with a broken jaw, whatever it would take to win.

Ali was also a showman, and many of his fights went the distance because he loved his time in the ring.

Who could have beaten Ali historically? Joe Lewis, Jack Dempsey, Jack Johnston, Lennox Lewis, and Rocky Marciano are the worthy opponents that come to my mind, but Joe Lewis is the only one of these that I can imagine actually beating the wily Ali.

Ali was crafty, dangerous, and a whole lot better than people give credit. He was a pure boxer, so he fought with finesse, intelligence and determination rather than power. He beat Sonny Liston and George Foreman, two of the toughest and meanest men to ever enter the ring.

  4. If you mean the way Muhammad Ali is right now, YES.

Plenty of other boxers will end up just the swame way.

  5. They all seem charisma-free these days

  6. anthony G is right ali was a tremendous boxer but by no means the best..self promotion was his big thing and if say lewis had as big a mouth and ego we would be talking about him for far longer

  7. That's a definant yes.  Because in every sport time and time again have we seen special a talent erupt out of no where and dominate or maybe outshine all the rest.  But they'll need "REAL" competition to prove their greatness.

  8. No. First and foremost fighters today fight for the cash. And no one could match Ali's personality. It seems as though the best fighters are either in jail or the NFL. On top of that, the corruption in the boxing game is huge

  9. No there's only 1 of everyone

  10. wat am i? a furtune teller

  11. no

  12. Far as boxing...yes there has been.

As far has is persona...no.  That is what is wrong with boxing today and its demise....no personality.  As much as it was wrong you loved the idea of Mike Tyson eating up ears and you loved the Foreman come back....the golden boy...and so on.  Boxing needs a story.

There have been far greater fighter than ali...past present and future.

  13. Skippy can be lots better than Ali!

  14. Well everyone is different so probably not!

  15. Never. Theres only one Ali

  16. i hope so but i dought it

  17. probably not

  18. just like him? no of coarse not. each boxer of each generation will be different as all people are different and even more so different from generation to generation. as far as actual boxing skill I believe there been many great fighters since Ali and there are many more to come. if fact I think boxers today have a better chance of becoming great boxers b/c it is really the greats such as Ali who have left there footprint in boxing which allows a lot for aspiring athletes to learn from

  19. no...just like there will never be another MJ

  20. yes if they take ballet lessons first as they will need to be light and fast on their feet to keep away from the punches, just my oppinion folks no hard feelings to all ali fans but i think there have been greater boxers than Ali.

  21. yeah man many boxers are fast and have a big mouth david haye is one

  22. Will there ever be another BEATLES?

  23. Will there ever be another wrestler like Hulk Hogan? No, everyone will be great as individuals...In 20 more years they will talk about Ali for his accomplishments, and all the others for their own...

  24. Just a second while I look for my crystal ball...

  25. Boxer like him? NO.

Will there ever be a better boxer? Yes, absolutely.

Just like there will never be another MJ, there will be (and currently is) a better basket ball player. (two actually)

  26. it pains to say we will never see anyone like (the greatest) muhummad ali aka cassius marcellus clay jr...sugar ray leonard, pernell whitaker, and floyd mayweather jr may give us small flashes of his skills, but no fighter has transcended the sport of boxing the way ali has...dempsey,  louis, and marciano became household names, but to become the most reconized face in the world is an accomplishment no athlete in any sport has yet to match !!!
