Is he like Michael Jordan, who will always remain the BEST basketball player ever.

Even if there is Someone who is definitely better than Ray Robinson, will boxing critics ever admit it? Will he always remain as "THE UNTOUCHABLE" ?

  1. It's not likely, anytime soon, that anyone will surpass Sugar Ray Robinson.  I'll tell you why.

Robinson is not the best for no reason.   He's the best because he beat ALL the best during his time.  Fighters today don't HAVE to go through what Robinson HAD to go through.

Muhammad ALI opened a LOT of doors for boxers.  Before him, only FEW fighters made money.  During his time other heavyweights made money BECAUSE of him.  After his time ALL boxers made money.  Unfortunately, so did the promoters.  The one bad thing about ALI's effect is that most promoters are greedy sharks who want to play God at the expense of fighters.

For this reason, fighters don't HAVE to face the best avaliable competition.  DeLa Hoya can go ALL THE WAY to 160 and get KO'd while avoiding the best 154 fighter, Winky Wright.   Floyd Mayweather can go to 154, fight a boring money fight with Oscar, while avoiding the Best 147 lb. fighter.

We don't KNOW who is better between DeLa Hoya and Trinidad.  They only fought once.  Oscar beat him up but Felix got the decision.  The only solution,  DO IT AGAIN.  Fighters don't HAVE to do that if they don't want to.  It almost seems like a crime that Oscar and Floyd can ''waltz'' around the ring, make a zillion dollars so Floyd can say  "F@#K Y'all" and bow out.  Leonard didn't HAVE to give Hagler a rematch.

Robinson went 5 for 6 against Lamotta so we KNOW who is better.  He went 120 wins, against the BEST competition, before spotting Lamotta 9.5lbs. in his first loss.  They were 1 and 1 then.  Robinson beat him in the rematach (their 3rd)  THREE WEEKS LATER!!.  WHO does that Today?  Who HAS to?

Robinson only missed one during his time.  He never fought Charley Burley.  I'm sure Robinson had nothing to with that.  IT was likely politics.

I doubt there will ever be another better.

  2. back in the day boxers would fight twice a month sometimes once a week,15 round bouts with smaller gloves, only one championship belt per weight class, you knew who the champs were back than...j.c.chavez was the last guy to fight atleast twice a month when he started...but most of todays generation of boxers are pu$$ies...today they fight twice a year even sometimes once a year,12 round bouts with more padding on the gloves...and also most of todays so-called champions avoid the risky fights & pick and choose there opponents, you got the wbo, wba, wbc, ibf belts per weight class so its like a tournament but its stupid to have 4 champions per weight...IT SHOULD BE ONE BELT PER WEIGHT CLASS...that way you know who the real champ is....my opinion is boxers from back than were more tough & had ballz...and there will not be another boxer to to dethrone s.r.robinson from the top of the all time p4p list!

  3. don't forget that if it wasnt for robinson there would not be a pound for pound rating system at all and not many fighters today will be able to fight over a hundred fights or win 40 bouts in a row.....times were different, the conditions to compile such a phenomenal record don't exist anymore since most fighters barely make it past fifty fights.

  4. robinson is considered the best pound for pound ever and not many people argue it  maybe but doughtful in this day and age with all the bullshit going on in boxing will there ever be somebody better than robinson he fought in the first golden age of boxing for the middleweights as well as welterweight and almost beating joey maxim until the humid heat beat him for the light heavyweight title by the way the second golden age for the middleweights was the 80s

  5. I agree!! Even if someone does come along it won't be until they retire that they will get their credit!!

  6. No one will ever be better

  7. why would you even ask that , and right now i cant see that happening any time soon hes the man!

  8. No because he fought almost 200 fights to get the recognition he did. Today people don't fight all the competition they have available and don't fight that many fights. There will only be Sugar Ray Robinson.

  9. Theres many many other athletes now days that are better than what the legends were back in the days, but nobody wants to admit it just like you said, I do beleive that Jone Jr. can beat Robinson, I do think Ronaldinho is better than Pele, I do see Lebron is better than Michael if they were to play one on one, but nobody wants to admit that the world is advencing and everything is gettin better, do you realy think Joe Louis can hang with Tyson, the thing is back in the days there was only a few good athletes in their sport and they just stood out head and shoulders above the rest, and people now days think 'Oooh man, he was so good he was untouchable" Well just think if you take these athletes from the past and throw them in the competition now days and see what happens
