So I have a 1998 Chevy Cavalier Z24 2 dr, and the tires on it now are 195/65/R15. I recently received a pair of 17" rims for my birthday from my step father, and I am worried about the size. I had a few answers to my question last time I asked but I did not have my current wheel size on me to tell what size I was going from. I was told you need to get as close to the original size as possible. The closest size I could fine was..

215/50-17

Am I going to get tire rub with these? Am I making the right decision? I don't really want to tell my stepfather they won't work... but if they won't they won't... I would imagine that if they sold the rims and they said they would fit the car, and you can buy tires for them, then they won't... But I am no pro...

The original equipment size says it should be 205/55/16.. but its not...

The rims I got were Arospeed ONYX 17"

  1. P215/50R17 90, 215/50R17 93, 215/50R17 XL 95, 225/45R17 90, 225/45R17 91 and 225/45R17 XL 94 are all acceptable plus sizes for your original P195/65R15 89S sized tires.

Whether or not you have clearance problems with those wheels on this particular car is another story.  Always test fit one front and rear before mounting all four.

  2. if they do not work, your step father shouldnt get upset. are the wheels universal? how many lugs do you have on the car? wheels?
