Question:

Will they call me back?

I had an interview today for an on-campus job. First I met with a lady who conducted an interview and then she said the lady in the accounting department where I wanted to work, wanted to speak with me also. They both told me about the times I would be working and the day the orientation would be for all new employees. Then at the end of the interview, they said they would get back to me. Was this their way of saying they don't want me to work there or don't they usually offer the job on the same day?

  1. Usually places don't offer the job at that time, because they need to discuss their options and/or have other people to interview as well.  Really the fact that they gave you hours and things of that nature, isn't a good indicator either way.  You are really never going to know what they are thinking, until they call you and let you know.  Just keep  your fingers crossed!  Good luck!

  2. It sounds like they are considering you. It is not usual to hire anyone "on the spot."

Write a card thanking them for the interview, including contact information. Use the interviewer's names. That will let them know you're also considering them.

  3. In my own experience, employers don't usually offer the job on the spot. They probably need to check your references, and maybe put together a "new hire" packet. Every company is different, but it does sound like your interview went well. Good luck!
