I am 22 years old, my husband and I have been married for 3 years, he enlisted ADAF in April, our first pcs will be to Ramstein Air Base in Germany, he says I have to get a medical clearance. I am a 4 year survivor of cancer, and have ongoing issues with my heart from the radiation and chemo. I am afraid they are going to deny my clearance to travel to Germany on our pcs tour of 3 years. I am upset. Do you think this will get me denied? Thanks in advance.

  1. I would hope you would not be denied because of your medical issues.

  2. I do not think you will be able to screen for an overseas assignment.  If there were no ongoing issues you'd be okay, but since you are still having medical issues there's a high chance you and your husband will not be able to complete the assignment.

The navy has a program called the Exceptional Family Member Program which would guarantee you'd be stationed in close proximity to adequate medical facilities.  Doesn't the Air Force have something like this?

    What is the EFMP?

As a detailing tool and quality of life program, enrollment in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) ensures that families are able to live in areas where they can access necessary resources.  EFMP is a mandatory program per OPNAV 1754.2C and is designed for all Page 2 dependents (adults and children) residing with their sponsor and meeting the criteria below.  Because this program assists both the service member and the family, FFSC offers workshops for family members and Commands.  For the family, FFSC offers EFMP Orientation.  For the Fleet, FFSC offers Command EFMP Point of Contact (POC) Training and Command EFMP GMT.  See below for details and community resources.
