Will they ever use Blimps to travel across oceans again? Its slower, it would be expensive but for people who have time and have some extra cash. With todays tecnology they could make it alot safer. I think it would be a good business.

  1. No, blimps will never be used again for long distance passenger travel. They're too slow and the prices would have to be be too high to generate much interest.  Few people would be interested in taking days to travel a distance that can easily be covered in hours by airplane at much lower cost.

If travelers wanted a slower, more relaxed way to travel, trains would be popular within the US. However, few people use them (other than the northeastern corridor business markets) and Amtrak runs up huge losses as a result. Why? Passengers would rather be at their destination in three hours than two days.

  2. Probably not blimps but airships yes I can envision it. Not for a mean of getting from a to b fast but for the experience. I think that there is a market for an aerial cruise liner and you could only do this with an airship because you want to be low and slow and there simply is no other efficient way of floating than using an airship. So ya I believe it's not a matter of "if" more a matter of "when" There is a company called Zeppelin Europe Tours who plans this and there are many concepts floating around it's no more a matter of is it technologically feasible but more who is going to pay for it. Who is putting in the investment.

We will be writing more about Zeppelin Europe Tours and Aerial Cruises in the next weeks on our Blog at http://airshipworld.blogspot.com/

  3. You send it yourself it's slow and expensive and to hard to maintain i would have to say that it won't be happening anytime soon.

  4. They have never left

they are still in use today

  5. I think you're right. It was an elegant way to cross the ocean and travel in general.
