  1. NO.

  2. Most likely no. The high operation and maintenance costs of the Concorde had proved to be too high and the flights were not profitable as they were very expensive and there were little demand, futhermore with the present fuel crisis, it would cripple any chances of the Concorde returning back to service.

  3. Highly unlikely.Withdrawn as sales were limited to France and Britain, the countries that developed Concorde. The USSR built Concordski, the Tu144 and ths, too, failed to sell.

  4. No, and there are several reasons for this.

First: some of the planes are quite old, the fleet leader has 23376 flight hours logged. I do not know the design structural life, but it is quite possible that it was nearing it.

Second: with a total production run of 20, 6 being prototypes never put in revenue service (with one airframe lost to a crash, and one scrapped after being used for spares to keep the other plane active) there is not enough of them to make economical sense, due to lack of spares and also to the cost of operation, Concorde uses as much fuel as a 747, but carries 1/4 as many passenger.

Third: obsolecent technology. Concorde was developed in the 1960's, and put in service in 1976. 32 years means a lot of things have changed in material, engine and avionics, and that far more efficient designs could be done today to bring a replacement SST. The downside to that is, of course, than an SST will always use more fuel than a subsonic airliner--and with current oil price and environmental concerns, I am not sure anyone would dare think this is a viable proposition--and would be formidably expensive to design, and no company would embark on such a project unless there was huge interest and support from the airlines (and that ultimately means the paying passengers).

Would you pay 10 times the ticket price for a trip in the Concorde? If yes, how often in a year? And how many other people are interested? Add all the "yes", and see if that is enough to keep an airplane fleet of only 12 active economically. Airlines have done that exercise and concluded that there was not enough economic interest to do so.

Though breaks, but that is the way it is.

  5. Not ever. There will be new SSTs, but the Concorde is a victim of tight budgets.
