Question:

Will they fire me?

I work in a restaurant where my main task is to take orders for and serve drinks. Last week I placed a tray on the table and it slipped, so a drink spilt on the floor. I apologized to the manager and he said it was okay because we all make mistakes, as long as I dont make a habit out of it. But on Saturday I accidentally tipped a bottle of beer forward and it spilt on the floor. Some friends of mine were in work that night and some of the staff knew that they were making me nervous. And I went there this evening for a meal with my family and they reduced the price of the bill because "they like to take care of their staff". But one of the waiters said "See you on..." and didnt finish the sentence. Will they fire me? I really like this job :(

  1. no! everyone makes mistakes, just practice your balincing so you dont spill anymore drinks :)

  2. I don't think spilling a drink once in a while is grounds for dismissal.  Of course who knows what goes on in the minds of management. All you can do is do your best and don't let people rattle you.  Take a deep breath and calm down.

  3. I don't think they will, and I don't think they should.

  4. He may not have finished the sentence because he did not know your schedule.

If they reduced the price of your meal -- that seems to be a good indicator that they do not plan to fire you.

Your tiny accidents are not bad ones .. I am sure they have had much larger mess-ups to happen to them.

No one knows what they have planned -- but it sounds like you are ok with your job.

  5. Nah i doubt it you dont get fired for accidents really, just apologize and pay for the damage you did and everything should be fine.

  6. I think its unlikely.I think you need to stop worrying and enjoy your job.If you get overly worried and nervous about every little mistake you make, the chances are you are going to end up having a few more spillages.

  7. they could but they wouldnt if they know its only accsidents

  8. nah, everyone makes mistakes but like your manager said don't make a habit out of it and you will be fine. One tip is that when your friends or family come up try to see if they will set them in a different area until you get comfortable. thats what helped me. Good luck

  9. No. I wouldn't think so. Everybody makes mistakes and they wouldn't have reduced the bill if they are going to fire you. You probably just didn't hear the complete sentence of the other waiter or he didn't know when you worked next. Besides that I don't think the waiter would have known that you would be getting fired your manager would have.  Keep your head up high and Just be forward with your manager, tell them that you did it again and that you need to work on your nerves and take things slow. I'm sure it will be fine... :)

  10. 5 r 4 mistakes r ok but if u make them all the time u wont get anywhere even when learn from mistakes

  11. I don't think they will fire you over spilling two drinks, but you might want to think twice about having your friends at work during your shift (especially if they were making you nervous.

As for the co-worker who didn't finish his sentence, he probably just didn't know which day you were scheduled to work next.

  12. I doubt it, it is only twice you have messed up :) Maybe your colleague just didn't know when you were working next? I think its just a misunderstanding.

  13. No, I wouldn't worry. Take a deep breath & relax. A few mistakes are normal.

  14. It's a hard one to see if they will or not. But after a couple of events honestly you should be ok.

Depending on what restaurant you work at, and of course what country will depend on the workplace agreement documentation. Will also depend on the manager, employer who is in charge.

Keep smiling, keep doing your job good and have a good time at it aswell.

My father was a waiter, he made sooo many mistakes, he didnt just spill wine or drinks here and there, but food aswell. He managed to get back on his feet and eventually he became the manager of the floor for the waiters.

With the person saying "see you on..." i don't know what might of been on his mind, maybe just ask him. Usually employers dont let everyone know about firing employee's and so forth...due to rumors, gossip etc.

Hope i helped abit :) just smile :D

  15. SOrta like this dont sound so good but its according to themanager and how they feel about it .But just remember if they do then just pick up and go on there are other jobs where that came from .Some places are strict others are not time will tell and your chances since we cant read the bosses mind are 50-50.hang in there time will tell

  16. According to me, I wouldn't think they would. I have worked in hospitality and in retail. Employees sometimes break stuff worth a lot, it is all a part of the trade and if you are knew then usually people understand everything is a part of the learning curve. If you are doubtful, go talk to your manager and ask him for an informal feedback and also mention that you like this job and would like to know the areas where you could improve or learn more about. Proactive employees are always appreciated!

  17. I highly doubt they will fire you :) everyone makes mistakes like your manager said, dont stress it

  18. Hopefully not.  If you continue to try your hardest and be positive you should be fine.  Just keep your cool, and try not to let your nervousness show.  I wish you good luck.
