  1. Definitely.  I'm certain everything will be hybrid before long.  The trains have been for more than half a century, if not a century.

    One of the great advantages is dynamic breaking.  You recover some of the car's energy when you break, instead of wasting it all like you do with all-fuel engined vehicles.  That is why many hybrids get better mileage in town than on the highway.


  2. Yes, there are many on the road. As a mechanic I have had to work on one hybrid and for me it is a nightmare.  But they are getting 18mpg as opposed to the 6-8 of straight diesels.  There are also biodiesels and hybrid boidiesels.  International trucks have already fielded the first ones.
