This is o9nly an example, say you went into the military to train as a medic. But for some reason you're not up to it, for example maybe low grades, or you seem to be showing little interest or your cant perform the things you are suppose to do.

What happens do they move you to another job?

Anyone have this happen to them?

  1. Australian Army, I take it? You can do what is known as a Corps Transfer.

Each soldier is part of a particular administrative Corps - Riflemen are in the Royal Australian Infantry Corps, Medics are in the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps, Operator Supply soldiers are in the Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps.

Simply put, you go through your chain of command to do the paperwork for a transfer, pick out a new Corps, Job and Unit to apply for, then wait for it to slowly go through the system.

Although you can be approached with a transfer because of concerns about your performance, changing to another Corps is voluntary. In some cases, you have the option of discharging upon request.

Back when I did my recruit course, I was a miserable trainee. Eventually I was marched up to my platoon commander, who had a chat about transferring me out of my allocated corps (RAA) to a non combat job (in the RAAOC). However, I decided not to persue it, stayed in the RAA and never regretted it. I recently put in paperwork to transfer to the Military Police - they can't do this often, because boy is it slow.

  2. you'll get reclassed to a different MOS. it happened to a friend of mine he was training to be a combat medic but failed to many tests and got re-classed to PATRIOT missile launcher which is what i am!

  3. Glen,

In the AF, if you can't qualify for a particular AFSC for reasons beyond your control, normally they will retrain you into another career.  Usually, you be able to select from a list of other AFSCs, from which you qualify, and which are usually experiencing shortages in that particular career field.  If you don't qualify for reasons within your control, you'll probably face disciplinary action, and subsequently discharge.

I saw many folks become disqualified, and it's not uncommon.  When I worked at the AF personnel center at Randolph AFB, I retrained, and reclassified many, many folks.

    good luck

  4. well sad to say thay if you dont do well as a medic your evaluations will give you limited access on future job but theyre not going to put you in something that you cant do so get something you enjoy changing jobs in the military is easy takes a while but its easy

  5. This has not happened to me but if you can’t do the job you are going to school for the military will pick something else that they think you will be a good fit for.  You can’t just pick a new job if you are doing well and if they pick one for you it more then likely won’t be something fun or enjoyable.   Good luck!!

  6. If you have the ASVAB scores to do the job then you will do it, If your unmotivated they will motivate you some how.
