Question:

Will this be enough documentation to file an insurance claim with the USPS?

Its been two weeks since I mailed out my laptop to be repaired by the person I bought it from. I bought $350 of insurance for it (purchase price was $349.98), and assuming it does not arrive, I have to wait another week before I can file a claim.

I'm a minor; I purchased the laptop using my moms friends dad's (honestly!!) paypal account on Ebay. My mom and the friend cut ties, though, so I have no way of getting in contact with the person who's account I used.

Here is the documentation that I have:

Correspondence between the person who I bought it from and myself, in which I explained that I would be using a friend's paypal account.

Deposit slip from when I deposited the $381 into the friend's bank account (that included shipping)

printout from my MyEbay account where it exclaims that I paid for the item and on what day I paid for it, etc.

But I do NOT have access to his paypal account or bank statement.

Should I still be able to make my claim??

Thanks.

  1. You better hope that your mothers friend didn't take the money out of the pay pal acct. The USPS won't do anything for 6 weeks. It would be good if there was a way that you could contact the person who has the pay pal acct.to make sure that the other person got his money.good luck

  2. To make the claim you basically need three things. Proof of value, proof of Insurance and proof of loss.

So, you will need the receipt of the purchase of Insurance.

You need proof of the value of the item such as a receipt when you purchased it.

Proof of loss is easy. The lack of a delivery scan and a signature for an Insured of more than $200 is considered proof of loss.

You already know that you need to wait until 21 days after the date of mailing to file a claim. But, did you know that you can make a lost mail report 14 days after the date of mailing.

That is also done online at usps.com/postalinspectors
