  1. It should be fine, however the only thing is it may cut the chunks too small, but if its a good price go for it, it will help to an extent. You may lose some of the vital liquid if you sue a meat grinder, make sure you make it over a bucket to stop this.

  2. Airflow nailed it, I would add this: use the largest plate on the grinder (the biggest holes) that will give you the biggest chunks.

I have also used a decomissioned disposal (under sink kind) for chum making.  Nice uneven parts with  some chunks, some tiny bits. That dipsoal really cuts though the bones too.  Talk to some remodelers in your area to see if they have any old sinks and disposals they've taken out of houses, or go to a second hand building supply store.

  3. All good advice so far but see if you can find a large (used) commercial grade food processor. It'll save all of your juices and you can always take the blades out and hammer them so you can maintain some chunks in the mix. If you find your chum mix is too fine, chop some into chunks and freeze this in storage bags. Start tossing the chunks out after the chum starts to thaw. Put a hook in some of the chunks and your good to go!

  4. I make and use chum alot and was considering getting a hand meat grinder for making chum. Just to make it easier than it is now. I think I saw one specifically fer makin' chum for around $30 somewhere.

I think a meat grinder could handle the task.

  5. yes it will. small amounts though.
