  1. i don't think it is because in the year about 1994 there

was a tornadoes in Illinois and about 1,000 people

    died.

How To Prepare For a Tornado:

    Difficulty: Easy

    Time Required: 30 minutes

    Here's How:

    Involve your family in preparation.

If you live in Arkansas, make sure your home insurance covers tornado damage.

Prepare for a tornado and run tornado drills before severe weather. This will lessen the chance of confusion if a tornado hits.

Pick the lowest place in your house to take cover before a tornado. Basements are great, but if you don't have a basement, choose an interior doorway or hallway.

Cover your head to protect it from flying debris. Use a mattress or a piece of sturdy furniture.

Stay away from windows and other glass (aquariums, mirrors, etc.).

Keep a wrench near the gas meter and be sure you know how to turn the gas off.

Make a supply box including a battery operated weather band radio, candles, flashlights, blankets, water and batteries.

Stay inside! If you are in a car, pull to the side of the road and get out of the car (get in a ditch if possible). You cannot out run a tornado.

Television and radio (weather band) are the best places to listen for up to date information.

    Tips!:

Don't wait until you hear the sirens to take cover. Many times, the sirens don't ring until it's too late.

If you live in a mobile home leave it and go somewhere else when there is a tornado watch.

It is a myth that open windows will lessen the effects of a tornado. It is best to keep them closed.

  2. Just figure out the safest place in your home to be in during a tornado.  Generally thats an interior room, with as few windows as possible, generally in the East part of the home if possible.  For me, its in my basement, in a room with no windows and a tornado-proof, reinforced ceiling.  My whole house could blow away, and we'd be safe and sound in that room.

No, I dont believe that this tornado season will be any worse than any other.  Bear in mind that tornadoes are very localized, they can hit a house, and the 2 houses on either side will be untouched.  The odds of being really hit by one are generally low- and I live in the tail end of Tornado Alley.

  3. As of May 26, 1,191 tornadoes have been reported in the United States.

This tornado season has been worst than previous years since there have been many more nationwide instead of being mostly restricted to "Tornado Alley". As far as being the deadliest, nope...that title still belongs to the Tri City Tornado back in 1925. But it has been the deadliest since 1998.

Our tracking and warning systems are far better than they were a few years ago, especially here in Oklahoma. I think tornado education has improved too.

Best way to prepare is to have shelter or know where your nearest shelter is located. My family (just two of us) use our closet and cover ourselves with a futon mattress and pillows. When I'm on the road, I try to keep on main interstates so that I can pull over at the nearest building...if none is available, you just dig down close to the ground  (preferably a ditch) and hold on.

Since the begining of this year, I've gone through at least 5 tornado warnings.....you get use to it as weird as that may sound.
