Will this be too powerful for my room? velodyne SPL-1200R?

I've a roughtly 6.5 X 3.5 meters living room which i use for my home theater setup. it's open to my kitchen which is about the size of my living room. My celling height is about 2.5 to 3 meters.

the living is not really direct 'open' to the kitchen though, they both form a 'Z' formation. So while sitting in the living room i can actually see my kitchen. just imagine one of the two circles in number '8' represent my living room and another kitchen. shift one of the circle left while another is shifted right to a position they both still touch each other. this is how my floorplan looks like.

according to this room size, will the velodyne spl-1200R be too powerful for my home theater usage? i into really punchy bass as i use my system purely for movies. but i'm afraid getting a 1000watts 12" driver sub will cause the bass to be too boomy. any experiences or good advies? thanks~!

  1. Best route to go is install and then calibrate. Run a movie or music and adjust the output level on your sub and the on your receiver. If it is to loud, come down some off your receiver. If it is to muddy sounding, cut any freq. from 30 down, or you can pull up 90-140, that is if you have an eq that will let you do this.

  2. You won't know 'til you hook it up and try it.

  3. There is no such a thing as too big a subwoofer for the room (unless your talking about visual aesthetics). All subwoofers have level controls and some have some sort of room tuning circuitry.  The Velodyne SPL-1200 should do just fine.
