i have a 2000 chevy blazer, every year it never fails BOTH front wheel bearings go out.. and this year they are roaring again so i know its time.. but i really dont want to put $300 into it again.. everything has been tested and the dealer says this is a problem with all blazers this model and that it was GM's fault yet they are refusing to cover it... what will happen if i ignore the noise and not replace the bearing/hub? can the wheel fall off or anything?

note: on this model then wheel bearing and hub assembly are one single piece.. you cannot grease the bearing or just change it.. it all has to be changed together because its all sealed together..

  1. Every year? Either you're racking up 60k in a year, or they're using cheap bearings. Those bearings from a decent source run $200-300 each, so I'm guessing the latter.

No, it's not a common problem with that year(it happens, sure, but not common).

Yes, VERY bad things will happen... no brakes, seized bearing, loss of steering, etc. etc.

Have them replaced with AC Delco bearings.

  2. I could not believe the bearing and hub was one assembly so I Googled auto parts and the 1 st site I came to listed a beaing for a 2000 Blazer for $32.88. If you let your bearing seize up, you will come to a screeching stop and most likely damage other parts in the process. If it was mine I would replace the bearings/races and seals and use Moly grease to pack the bearings. If the bearings are packed properly and installed properly they should last a lot longer than one year. If you can't do this work yourself, ask around and find a shop with a great reputation and let them do it. Even if you have to wait for them to get to it.

  3. Yes they can lock up> So if you here them there gone> Have the front end aligned>

  4. Your steering will get very sloppy and you make hit something. Id look into the "Lemon Law", where if a car experiences the same problem 3 times its the dealers fault and they have to pay for it or pay for your truck.
