  1. i would say get a capacitor because they really do help out a lot. i have two alpine type r subs running off of one amp and i have no light flickers at all.

  2. While I am not an expert, i am little confused at this point.  you had 2, 380 watt RMS subs and were putting 2000 watts to them?

As far as your question regarding your battery, this is something you will have to look at as you use your stereo.  Depending on what type of car you have, you could have anywhere from a 60-120amp alternator, some even higher.  What you need to be remember is that at idle, your alternator is putting out the lowest amount of voltage.

For example, a 70 amp alternator is likely only putting out around 40 or even less amps at idle.

As far as a capacitor, they are great with certain setups but will do more harm in othes.  For instance, if you crank your stereo non stop with lots of bass, you are draining your cap first, and then your battery. If you never let up on the bass, your alternator is trying to constantly recharge your alternator, instead of your battery.  This can result in a battery draining frequently.

For the money I would start with upgrading your power and ground wires.  Engine grounds especially. By increasing the gauge of your engine and chassis grounds, you can help with this.  It's also much cheaper than a battery or cap.

If your lights are still dimming excessively or other driveability issues you have a few options.  One is to get a higher quality deep cell battery.  These are costly.  The second option is a capacitor.  Make sure to follow the guidelines on how many farads.  The common rule is 1 farad for every 500 watts.  Like previously stated this is only usefull with specific system setups.   The third option is a High Output Alternator.  These can be expensive but is one of the best options for large systems.  Remember though, while you can slap a 180 amp alternator on your car, at idle it is not putting out anywhere near that.  The 180 amp would most likely be putting out around 80 or so at idle, and even that is a generous estimate.

  3. You wont be able to run 4 amps without upgrading your alternator, you will kill your battery if you try this.  The sony's are c**p compared to the pioneers, ditch the sony's and hook up the pioneers.  They will bang way harder than your sony's ( they are from wal mart).

I don't know what sony amps your running but make sure they can power the pioneers properly, if you are going to run 1000 watts you will need to upgrade the big 3.  Hopefully you will be able to run them without upgrading your batt or alt.

I recommend getting a new amp, try a class D mono amp. I've been researching amps and sonicelectronix has a Kenwood KAC-9103D 900rms@2ohms for 170.

    Good Luck

  4. The problem is not so much the subs. You are trying to run TWO amps on one battery, only being charged by One alternator.

I would say make the advancement to the Pioneers, but only use one of them w/ one amp. At least until you decide to make some kind of upgrade on power source.

Do Not run another battery either - that will only make your alternator work twice as hard and burn up.

I would consider using only the one Pionner on one of those amps. Sell all of the equipment you have left to purchase a higher alternator, and then eventually upgrade to a more solid amp. You would be totally amazed at what only one 12 in the proper recommended size enclosure and a better amp could do.
