and what else? does a onion really help cure?

  1. None of these things have curative powers; but they do help you feel a little better.  A cold is something you just have to ride out until it's gone.  In the meantime, sensible eating combined with symptom relief medications, good hydration and a fair amount of "comfort foods" do see to have a beneficial effect.


  2. There is no cure for the common cold.  You have to just wait it out.  I wouldn't do the hot cocoa thing....the milk in it can create mucus and make it even worse.  Try tea with honey and lemon instead.  I would also use acetaminophen instead of ibuprofen....ibuprofen is great for inflammation, the acetaminophen is better to relieve aches and pains.

  3. i dont think it will. try some cold medicine, natural herbal coughdrops (ricola) , mint tea or special cold tea, chili. I have never heard that an onion will help you... but if you are going to eat the onion make sure you cook it first. Try lots of orange or pomegranate juice too and i think that the vitamin c pills will help prevent another cold.

All of the above items will help with the symptoms but time is the only thing that will work.  Your body's immune system has to lock on to the virus then create antibodies against it.  This can take several days.  You may feel quite sick for about 48 to 72 hours then your symptoms will start to improve quickly.  If you are still running a fever after 5 - 6 days or you have a sore throat for longer than 3 days call your doctor.

MY GRANDMOTHER WOULD USE THE SKIN OF ONIONS AND BOIL IT WITH HONEY UNTIL IT WAS VERY DARK THEN POUR INTO MUG AND MAKES US DRINK IT WHEN EVER WE HAD CHEST COLDS,BAD COUGHS AND HIGH TEMPS IT WORKED. ANOTHER WAY WAS SLICED ONIONS AND SHE'D PUT THEM INSIDE OF OUR SOCKS  WOOL ONLY, IN FLU SEASONS. BELIEVE IT OR NOT IT WORKED.                          FATIMA

    (None of it will "cure" the cold.  Time is the only "cure".)

  8. None of those will cure a cold, but they may help to ease the symptoms.

    The best way to get less colds and to shorten them is to strengthen your immune system: ie: healthy diet and enough exercise.
