Question:

Will this damage my automatic transmission?

I drive a 1997 Formula, LT1 engine, automatic transmission, locking rear axle. In order to "light up" the tires, I place the car in Drive, my foot on the brake, and press hard on the accelerator. Then I let go of the brake and burn rubber. Not being an auto mechanic, I would like to know if this will damage my automatic transmission or any other components (other than the tires). Thanks for all answers!!

  1. Your just gonna put excess strain on the brakes and some of the drive train components. It's not bad for your car, or good for it. Just don't be burning rubber everyday.

  2. it would definitely put excess strain on your engine...esspecially if its not built for that kind of stuff.

  3. Yea it puts a lil more abuse on your clutch packs but just keep doing it until you blow the auto tranny to h**l then but a 6 speed in it like there should be anyways.
