so i love this dress and i want it for my bridesmaids. one is a size 8 AUS (which i think is about a 6 US sizing) and the other i think is about a size 16 AUS.

they both have a large bust so i am going to make it a round neck (not a boatneck like in the picture).

and the pleats in the skirt will allow to go over any wide hips and then comes in a bit at the knee. will this suit the larger girl or not?

  1. This dress I don't think would be flattering on a larger gal. The bubble bottom makes them look like a circle, and the high neckline and fitted tummy will show all of there flaws, and hid any bosom they might have. Good luck.

Halter gowns with slightly bellow the knee hems work great on women with larger figures.

  2. NO, the round neck like you said will be much better and the pleats will just make wide hips look even worse..take it from someone who has enormous hips! A dress with an empire waist or an a-line cut are the only things that look decent on bigger girls.

  3. It is a lovely dress. Have you asked the bridesmaids how they would feel in that style? Most women know what kind of style would suit them. Do let them know that they don't have to say yes just to please you!

A large bust size (and what is large anyway? DD or K) is not enough to go on. Is the bust high or low?, Do they have distinct waists and curve out to hips, or bigger tummies?

When my s-i-l got married and her sister and I were the bridesmaids, she took as to a dress shop and we spent the day looking at patterns. We found one we could all agree on, discussed colours, again found one we were all happy with, and then we got them professionally made up.

The dresses (and subsequent pictures) looked fantastic.

Every woman's shape is different - we tend to know what looks good on ourselves - why not ask them?

  4. That dress will call attention to a larger bust.  Where did you hear that V-necks are not good for a larger bust?  As someone who has had one all of my 42 years, I find v-necks more flattering....and I dont mean PLUNGING v necks.  I don't wear tops with the girls hanging out.

  5. Hmmm... I see some mixed results here. I'll add my three cents.

    1. The picture is of a dress on Eva Mendes, who is maybe a size 0 or 2. It would not look good on your bridesmaids because of the pleating and because of the weird silver/gold neck and waist. You don't need anything else at the top to draw attention to the b***s.

    2. Best on larger women w/ large b*****s is a circular neckline, thick shoulder straps to hide a larger bra, and an empire waist. I'm sure your size 14 friend would agree that V-necks don't work so well.

    3. You could do what I did and ask each bridesmaid to wear their own black dress; whatever makes them feel pretty and comfortable. That way your bridesmaids don't have to purchase a dress they'll never wear again, and you don't have to worry about finding one that's flattering on everyone.

  6. i dont see a pic

  7. A neck that high looks horrible on women with larger busts.  You want something with a v-neck.  A empire waist also looks horrible on a woman with a larger bust, it ends up looking like a maternity gown since it floats so far away from the body.  That dress didn't look good on the actress wearing, it surely will not look good on a real woman.  The pleats will just make a larger woman look bigger.  Try an a-line skirt with a v-neck bodice.

I don't know where you did your research, but I assure you that a v-neck will be much more flattering.  I wear a DD cup bra and wouldn't be caught dead wearing anything with a neckline that high as it just makes the girls look horrible.

  8. A round neckline will help "hold in" a large bust, but pleats generally make a person look heavier (if they are heavy already.)  You'll probably have to see how your bridesmaids look in this dress in person.

  9. You NEVER put plears on a heavy person.  The pleats will not lay flat and will spread open and make the person appear even bigger than they really are.  Don't do that to your bridesmaid...she is going to be self conscious enough with out the help of a dress that makes her look even bigger than she is.

  10. Your picture has been removed

  11. I can't see the photo but it doesn't sound good. Larger busted women look better with v necks, NOT round necklines.  Pleats are not good on fuller hips either.

I just saw the dress and I say no way. The pleats will make their hips/butts look huge. I don't know where you did your research, but trust me as a very busty woman, v necks ALWAYS look better.

  12. From experience...If your girls have a big busts...that dress will make them look bigger...not in a good way too.

  13. I'd say no...the belted waist I don't think would look very good and the top looks really confining for a big breasted woman...just my opinion.

  14. I think if you do what they call and "empire" waist it will accentuate both bridesmaid's best features and it will take away any visual to the other bridesmaid's mid section. Being a big girl myself, I suffer from the same thing, however there are so many different styles out there that will give her the "slimming" effect, it should go off without a hitch! G'day from this Yank!

  15. no it won't and remember if this is your wedding you will have these photos forever. v neck and NO pleats.

  16. there is no picture there

  17. cant see the pic, but ask your bridesmade if she will feel comfortable wearing it

  18. I don't think it will look good on a larger girl, Its too hip hugging, it would show everything!

  19. If a size 16 AUS is a 14 US then she is actually the average size for US. I would not worry too much about giant hips and such. I am 6`1 and at my thinnest I was a size 12 and considered THIN. A size 14 is not even big. I would not worry about it at all.
