My baby is 7 weeks old, on his 4th week he got 2 vaccine shots, for hepa b and for Tuberculosis. I want to bring him to the mall in 2 days, is that safe? or will that unduly expose him to viruses, bacterias and germs???

  1. DON'T BE A GERMAPHOBE!!!! TAKE YOUR BABY OUT!

  2. Absolutely take him out if you want to.  We had my baby at the mall and other places before she even had her shots.  She was around 2 weeks on her first outing which was to a family party where there were lots of people and kids.

A little exposure to germs is just fine, it's not as if the people at the mall are going to be holding him or breathing on him.

  3. the only way your baby will get sick is if he comes into undue contact with thing that baby's don't normally touch, or if someone sneezes or coughs on him, which most people if they are sick will stay away from babies.

  4. Taking your child out anywhere at any age could potentially expose him to sickness, but as long as you are cautious and don't touch things like railings and then touch him or let strangers get to close then I'm sure he'll be fine.

I was so scared to take my daughter out at this age too, so I took lots of sanitizer and if we were going to be in an elevator or close to other people I would cover her up so she wasn't breathing in their air too much.

    Congrats!

  5. Yes.  You can take your baby out in public no matter how old he is.  Make sure you wash your hands often.  You can take some hand sanitizer if that is more convenient.  Get out and have fun!

  6. Babies need to be exposed to illness and germs so that their immune systems will be able to protect them when they're older.

  7. Well put Tabitha! You took the words right outta my mouth. Kids today live in a far too sanitized environment. Too mauch disinfectant and those hand wash things -yuk! (Did you know they are actually a registered pesticide?? so I heard). Anything that kills bugs that you can't wash off cannot be good for you!

you are more at risk of exposing people who have weakened immune systems (ie those on Chemo) to disease than you are of catching anything as long as you take normal precautions.

  8. If your baby has been in a hospital and a doctor's office they have already been in the most germ infested places on earth.  Trust me the mall is way safer than your average hospital.
