  1. buy mela fix it is the best treatment for diseases and open wounds!

  2. Bettafix is a waste of money.  It is essentially dilute Melafix (also a scam), both of which are weak prevenatitives at best.  These are not treatments, and should not be used as such.  Real Ich medications (Quick Cure, Rid Ich, Aquarisol, Organicure, Coppersafe, Cupramine, Ich Cure, etc.) would be a much better choice.  Remove any activated carbon from the filter, and if using malachite green based medications, keep the tank dark, as it degrades with exposure to light.  Treat at LEAST one week after all signs of the parasite are gone (at a temperature of about 80*), as this ensures it has time to go through its life cycle as many times as needed to kill any encysted parasites.

-Heat alone will not kill Ich without doing considerable damage to most fish. To kill Ich, you'd have to reach into the high 80's, and in many cases, the low 90's. Discus tanks are generally kept VERY warm (often up between 85 and 90*), and are not immune to Ich. If your fish are heat tolerant, or do very poorly with medications (Discus, Bettas, Gouramis, Knives, many other Cichlids), you may be able to pull if off by cranking the heat up to 90* for a few days, but this should be a last resort.

-Melafix is useless for treating Ich, and most other infections-- it is a PREVENTATIVE.

  3. ick is white spots the size of a grain of salt looking for raised white spots is not how it is identfied bettafix is more for finrot and fungus infections for meds you need something like ick away also if you can raise the temp of the water to 85 degrees this will kill ick also

  4. Ich is a parasitic disease. The Betafix is a fungal cure so it probably would not help. Make sure its ich. Are there white raised spots?

If you have researched ich and are sure thats what you have then treat with a ich specific treatment. Good Luck!

  5. no these won't help your fish.  The quicker you get ich meds for your fish the better chance of saving him.  Don't use the tablets, they are just awful and seem not to work as quickly.

Be sure to follow the directions on the ich meds.  you will need to remove the carbon if you are using it and more than likely treat for 7-10 days.

Ich is a parasite not a fungus or bacteria.

  6. There is another post on curing ich from someone with 30 years experience.  He says to raise the temp to 85 degrees, and if you read the article at the link below, the natural habitat of a Betta is 80-95 degrees, so he should be able to handle it.  Look for the other question.
