  1. The hammer-like device you are asking about is called a kinetic bullet puller.  They sell for $15 to $20 at your nearest gun shop.  Otherwise try the following provided that:  1.  You are old and mature enough to do this safely; or 2. you can do it under proper supervision:

Take two locking pliers.  Hold the cartridge (brass body of the bullet) firmly with the first pair of locking plier making sure you're not crushing the case itself.  Then affix the second pair of locking plier to the nose of the bullet.  Carefully work the bullet (nose part) from the casing.  Dump the powder and disable the primer by immersing in oil overnight by spraying generous amounts of say WD-40 into the empty casing.

Drain the casing the next day, rinse out with clean water, dry and carefully fit the bullet back into the casing.  If necessary use something like Super or Krazy glue to hold the bullet in place.

    Good luck.

  2. is your life really only worth ten bucks? What are your intentions? If your trying to replicate a cartridge, i'm sure if you hit up one of the reloading forums, someone will to it for you . . . if its the powder you want . . . go buy some. I have heard of people tearing them down with a pair of pliers, but I don't recommend it . . . its not worth endangering yourself

  3. usually you can take the bullet out by grabbing the bullet and cartridge with separate pairs of pliers and pulling them apart that way.

  4. If it's the cartridge that you care about and not the bullet,

simply grip the bullet, (NOT the cartridge case), in a pair of pliers,

and holding the case in your hand, work the bullet from side to side.

It will loosen and come out eventually.

  5. Depending on the caliber you are pulling the bullet on....Just wiggle the bullet back and forth, you can also use the barrel end of the gun to hold the bullet.

Something learned in survival school.  Put bullet in muzzle end, twist round and bullet will come out and you can save powder to light fire with.

  6. I give it to James for the really clever idea.

  7. Take you bullet to a gun shop and say, "Could you please show me how that bullet puller works?...Please?...here, use this".

If they resist, say, "I'll give you five bucks...."

Easy as pie, no muss, no fuss, no purchase.

Just don't forget to use the magic words,

    "Please", and "five bucks".

  8. No your idea won't work.  You need to use the right tools to do it safely.  9 times out of 10 you could pull the bullet with pliers and get away with it.  but there is that one time when it goes horribly wrong and you loose fingers or your hand and possibly your eyesight.  the gamble is not worth it.  If you don't have the correct tools, just leave it alone until you do find someone that has the tools to do it safely.

  9. Or you can do it the safe way with a bullet puller.  Contact your nearest gun dealer for pricing.
