  1. The first answer that comes to mind is "probably." Vista will place a lot of demand on the resources available and may detract from your gaming experience.

    Throttling back on the Vista eye candy will decrease its strangle hold on your system resources. Additionally, you can change the graphics settings in the game to make its own demands less intensive.

    If you are looking to seriously play newer games I would recommend a desktop over a laptop. This will allow for better cooling because the small form factor of a laptop is no longer a restricting issue. Next option would be to purchase a 360 or PS3. 360 has all of the titles you named above and will come in at a cost lower than the new laptop.
