Hey, I checked on the website and you can post stuff with stamps as a letter up to 100g, In the envelope It contained 1 piece of paper and a 5 pound note, apparentley this would be no more than 30g, then I put a 2 pound coin and a 50 pence piece, i checked the weight of the coins and it all comes under 100g but I'm just asking what you think. Do you think it will get posted? I've posted it now and I'm now worried.

  1. The problem would be with the £2 coin which along with the paper and money will make it too think for a normal letter.

What will happen in this instance is the person who you are posting to will get a note from the delivery office requesting additional payment plus a handling fee of £1.

If the receiver does not pay it will be returned to you provided you've put a return address on the envelope.

  2. It will get delivered, but if there is insufficient postage on it, they will charge the recipient the difference plus a handling fee of about a pound. If the recipient refuses to pay, it will be returned to you as refused.

You should really use postal orders or cheques. It will cost you slightly more, but by posting cash, you increase the risk of theft.

  3. Yeah that'll be fine, might take up to a week though.

  4. If it's within the guidelines, Royal Mail will send it. The question is whether the money will arrive at it's destination. If the envelope obviously appears to contain money, it may be a temptation to a less honest worker or the weight of the coins might cause the envelope to tear. Personally I would never send coinage through the post; a postal order or cheque is far more secure.
