  1. yes it will . This is the light that I use for my lizards  and it will last for 8months to a 16 months

  2. yes it is probably a little too hot but should work perfectly fine

  3. UVB should never be considered a heat source, but it should be measured, and figured into the adjustment of heat/basking sources overall as it does produce heat.

As for effective output, you need to contact the manufacturer.  UVB as a rule only lasts 6-8 mo., but the UVA will still work.  In short - the bulb will be on, but it's not emitting UVB.  You can't see UVB with the human eye, but you can see the UVA it emits.  Just because the bulb is emmiting light doesn't mean it's still delivering UVB.

UVB effectiveness from a bulb/tube is dependent on the placement from the animal.  You will need to research this, too, by product.

If you are a reptile owner, you will have to accept that UVB sources (unless it's the sun) expire and need replacing every 1/2 yr. or so, as a general rule of thumb.

Also, be informed on current products, and what they are doing:

There is no easy and "final answer" to providing what is best for our animals.  RESEARCH is the key.  Studies of 25 yr. or longer finalize, and results are released daily.  Knowns become "DON'T DO" over night.

Google, and google, and google!  Stay current on what was thought safe a year ago, and isn't this year.  When confused, or in doubt: ask your vet.  THEY do refresher courses, and stay current on the controversay.

You only want to do what is best for YOUR animal.  That takes a bit of work on your part.  They are in the tank.. the habitat, and just subject to what you think you know.

Experts are 'experts' because they WORK daily to KNOW/learn, and are willing to admit they were wrong on occasion.

Your best source of information will come from people who have devoted their lives to answering the age old question "why"?  Check with breeders who have been doing the animal for over 20 yr., and your vet.  Read articles, and FIND the 'best' answers for present information out there.  It will change, most likely...  Try to stay current.

Pretend this was your HUMAN child.  WOULD you gamble?  How about the vacines for human babies out there now, like chicken pox, etc.?

There are no easy answers to reptiles (or kids).  Read.  Learn.  Be informed, and then base your choise on knowledge and what you think is best.

For anything new or controversial?  I ask no less than three vets, before I go, or research more.

I also like the adage "don't fix what isn't broke."

You can find any answer out here you're looking for to support your personal opinion.  I prefer to base my choices in fact/proof.

It will last as long as it does.  It will emit heat.  No, it won't last forever, and you will have to replace it most likely long before it burns out, if you're looking to provide UVB.

A UVB bulb which just would burn out when expired would be a grand thing.  (Good idea for you geniuses out there, and the physics of making it happen, but I couldn't think of a sensor for this...)

So, it's back to us knowing it's been 6 mo. and time to change the bulbs.

Sorry I didn't have a better answer for you.

  4. yes.

  5. that sounds like it will do ok but make sure its only in one corner because the mali still needs to have a way out of the heat or else it could die. good lukc wiht him.
