  1. Tinting your hair should not dry it out as much as permanent hair color but I wouldn't recommend using tint because you cannot color over tinted hair. You have to wait for it to completely grow out. You can't use permanent hair color over Henna, progressive dyes, or tints and you're not really supposed to use it over semi-permanent color either because of breakage and discoloration but I have done that one before. If you don't want the damaging effects of permanent hair color you can use a semi-permanent which will last you up to about 28 shampoos, or you can use a permanent with low or no ammonia. Ammonia is a big key to why your hair dries out. Also, try a reconditioning treatment for your dry hair and scalp: towel dry your hair and use a conditioner with no alcohol and if possible keratin in it, and especially concentrate on your ends! Wrap a hot towel over your head and sit for about 15 minutes. Then rinse with lukewarm water. You should feel a difference! =)

P.S. Red is the Hardest hair color to keep bc the color red has the largest molecules which makes it really hard for your hair to absorb and hold. So if all and all you decide to use tint, red will fade FAST.
