  1. TKD will certainly help your kicking skills, balance, and power.  Kick boxing is - well.....Kick boxing.  Neither style is very useful on the street - in most cases.  I have seen a TKD with about 8 years training guy win a fight real quick with one massively powerful kick to a guys head.  He then tried it again on the guys friend (the friend was obviously a better fighter than the first drunk).  The result?  The second guy looped his leg with his right arm, and gave him one simple left hook to the nose and broke it.  By then the rest of the friends got involved and I had to get us both out of there immediately.  (this scenario is also why BJJ sucks.  While you are rolling around with one guy rather than even trying to fight standing, his friends are going to kill you.)  Lesson?  Sport karate is for the ring.  And if you train to compete and win fights, you will simply perform those ridiculous and pretty techniques on the street.  But there ain't no judge in a dark ally that's gonna wave you a point.  So if you like to compete, try TKD to strengthen your lower body skills.  If you are worried about fighting, investigate a more street worthy style.

  2. TKD has great drills. Maybe stick to kickboxing, but go online and find some basic TKD drills to practice. Always keep an open mind, and you will be a fighter like no other

  3. It will benefit, but you'll have to learn a bunch of forms and stuff. Try Tangsoodo or Karate for a more interesting martial art, especially Tangsoodo because that involves a lot of kicks, locks, holds, punches, everything.

  4. of course u wont get worse but in kickboxing u gatta work more on footwork an that is wat tae kwon do ppl lack and also in tkd sparring they all do rttgyhe same technique so it is not as good as kickboxing sparring where thery all do it differently......so if u wanna be a great kickboxer or boxer do kick boxing but u wanna be a great martial artist either will work tae kwon do has stuuff u cant learn in kickboxing but u wont learn it for 6 to 8 years

  5. TKD is pretty fun, but it will not benefit your kickboxing in the slightest.

  6. I agree with Peter. But doing TKD will help with balence and strength etc. It depends on wether you want to use your time on TKD building those sorts of things or not.

  7. TKD will give you better kicking form that will help you throw more precise kicks in the ring.   IT will increase power and it will allow you to use several different techniques that your opponents would not be used to

  8. Real TKD is a complete art which includes grappling, blocking, punching, kicking...

There are really only a couple of basic kicks in TKD, as opposed to what was mentioned above. The "advanced" kicks are not really more efficient than the beginner kicks, they are actually just more difficult (and thus, less useful) variations of them.

Real TKD can help in kickboxing because it will teach you the best form to generate power in your kicks. The Korean Army trains in real TKD and I know several Navy SEALs who are impressed by their combat ability.

  9. kickboxing only

  10. Certain applications of taekwondo may help with kickboxing, however, kickboxing i think is definetely the better art.

Focusing your time on taekwondo will mean that, you will of course learn kicks, but you will have to grade up belts to learn more of the efficient kicks.

I think that you would be better of sticking to kickboxing, keeping it specific to what is required is an excellent way to be, Thus, sticking to kickboxing is probably the best way to improve your kickboxing abilities.

    Hope this helps.

  11. TKD is great with mobility, foot work, variety of kicks. So, it will definitely help your kick boxing. You will have more new kicks as you weapons.  However TKD's hands are useless. TKD has a spinning hook kick that can be use to follow up a missed Muay thai leg kick.. So, you missed a low kick and spin around to spining hook kick your opponent with the other leg. TKD spinning back kick is good to stop your opponent from coming in. TKD axe kick is good and tricky, easy to chop down on your opponent's face if he is not careful. TKD's front side kick is great to stop anyone from coming in, and it is great to counter a low leg kick of Muay Thai.

you should learn all those kicks by the time you get to black belt. Another way is to get a friend who does TKD to teach you. The problem is if you don't practice it , you are not going to be able to use it.

Having said that, i would Learn TKD for a while, but stick to Muay Thai, Muay Thai is much more realistic and much more dangerous. TKD will help your kicks as Boxing will help your hands.
