Question:

Will training the hip flexors help me to jump higher?

Also anybody know any exercises that will get my hip flexors to contracting by some fast twitch exercises. Sprints, and what else? I'm trying to peak out my jumping ability? Jumping as high as I can humanly possible jump! Help me out?

  2. Search for information on "plyometrics", which is basically exercises that help you jump higher. My college team uses them. It involves things like jumping up stairs and other exercises that work EVERYTHING involved in jumping. Trust me, they work.

Yes, hips will help you jump higher, but the key areas are your quads and calf muscles.  The abover answerer was right; plyometrics are the key.  One good exercise that you can do at home if you have stairs is to jump up a step and then back down and keep going back and forth for approx. 20 reps.  Wait a minute or so and then repeat.  Also, tuck jumps are really good for jumping higher.  Just jump straight up and bring your knees up to your chest.  Finally, simply jumping will help you.  One really good exercise for this is to stand with your knees bent, squat down and touch the floor with both hands and then jump up in a blocking sort of jump.  Do about ten of these and slowly you will feel your leg muscles building.
