Hi all

I have had a male (unspeyed) rabbit for six months. He was looking very lonely - so we decided to buy a friend for him. We got another male today.

Will they be OK together. There has been a lot of humping and nipping so far, but no fighting.

  1. You have a chance for 2 males to live together if they are both neutered. If not, they will usually fight when they reach maturity. Reason is that one has to be the boss and that results in fighting.

  2. They probley wont be okay. I breed rabbits and even the brothers will start to fight after a while. I would not leave them alone together. I would say buy another cage and put them next to eachother but being in the same cage is not an option.

  3. Like others have said dont leave them alone together, Odviously you cant monitor them 24/7 so separate cages for the time being as rabbits are terratorial, But where they can see each other so they have time to adjust and get used to each other.

Aside from that as long as there is no fighting they should be ok, Just make sure its a gradual process, You should be ok as you have done it while they are still young enough to alter to living with a friend :-)

  4. Yes they will be fine. They just have to sort out who is the dominant and who is subordanent. If one is plucking fur out of the other one ( barbering ) then seperate them.  I think thats what its called.

  5. Firstly - well done for getting your rabbit a companion! They are a social species and need to be with their own kind.

However, two adult males will almost certainly fight. Even if they are okay now, they will begin to fight as they mature and can seriously hurt eachother.

You need to get them both neutered. This prevents them feeling the need to compete for everything and enables them to live together peacefully.

  6. yes

  7. Hi,

No two males do not get along, they will fight.

You have probley been told that your rabbit (either of them) is a male but it could be female because lots of breeders make mistakes on what s*x they are. Vets and shop owners can make mistakes too, they probley dont know much about rabbits. You should get your rabbits checked by someone who knows the difference.

  8. They will likely fight, but it's possible they won't.  If both were neutered, you would have a much better chance at a good introduction.  I would not leave them alone together until they are getting along 100% of the time, it only takes one serious fight for some huge vet bills or a dead rabbit.  Look here: http://www.rabbit.org/ in the Behavior page, for tips on successful introductions.
