  1. just dont sync ur iPod to ur iTunes

  2. I don't want to make any promises, but I have "borrowed" plenty music and upgraded iTunes a number of times, and the upgrade has never changed my library, or deleted files from my computer. I'd say go ahead and upgrade.

  3. Nope at least the music is purchased from iTunes just incase burn on to a CD so you don't lose your music

  4. Of course. Just make sure it is not ever set to auto-update and keep it on "manual update" when you are moving large amounts of songs back and forth. Then there will never be a problem and it won't lose the save files for your songs.

In certain circumstances they can get deleted, but if you have manual update turned on you can control whenvever the iTunes updates.

Another great thing is to just get the new iPod Classic and update your whole MP3 experience. Just get the newest recent firmware. It introduced Cover Flow technology which virtually eliminates the memory problem and accidental updates. You can flip a switch and have all your songs play in any order you like on auto-pilot. Thanks for the great question.
