Will upgrading my RAM and video card help my computer be faster?

Question

I have a windows 98 SE in my room, and I like to use it for playing casual games and watching youtube videos and stuff like that. Problem is, all these things run sooooo slow! If I upgrade my video card, and get some more RAM, will I see a difference in my computers speed and performance? Thanks :)

If you're running windows 98, i would suggest just shelling out money for a new computer. Probably not worth the upgrade.

But if you really want to, yes upgrading the ram and graphics card will speed it up (but it may be limited depending on your processor.

RAM increases computer efficiency but maybe your 98 will not take so much Ram since it's pretty old.

If the machine has less than a gig of ram, then upgrading it will give you a performance boost, particularly in boot and application start speeds, and general responsiveness of applications.

As far as the video card goes, this will really only be evident in games. It probably wont affect the 2d fuinctionality of the machine. If the machine has an agp slot you will see a bigger performance than you would with a pci card.  If the machine is 98 I expect it pre-dates pci-e technology, but if its a newer machine with an old os and has pci-e then this will yield a nice bump in performance if you get a decent card.

bear in mind you could get a whole new box for $200 so maybe keep this in mind when you are looking at your upgrade budget for vcard and ram.

I would reccomend getting a newer yet affordable computer, however if you dont have the money for that right now. Yes, RAM will help it run faster. A video and graphics card will make it so you dont lag as much in games.

well first of all, i would say that upgrading your ram and video card would really help to make your pc run faster but also try changing the hard disk drive for more capacity, because even if you upgrade your ram and video card if you are running on low disk space your pc would still run slow, if you don't want to buy another hard disk drive then make sure to use the disk clean up tool and remove other unnecessary files to be sure that your pc would run more faster. hope this answered your question..
