  1. I work at a preschool and I caught lice from the kids.  I used a lot of conditioner and after blow dryed my hair and then used a flat iron.  I been doing this for a while and they haven't come back.  They are really hard to get rid of.  I tried the olive oil but they did come back.  So I believe if you blow dry your hair and flat iron it, it does get rid of the lice/nits.

  2. I've been spraying rubbing alcohol on my hair liberally every day, then putting a ton of leave-in conditioner (say yes to cucumber) all over my hair and scalp before I go to bed so I look like a greasy bacon strip when I retire.  In the morning I shampoo with coconut shampoo, then do the rubbing alcohol and leave-in thing again at bedtime every day/night.  I don't have anyone to look for stray nits in my hair, which is very thick and long, and since I can't see in the back, I'm sure there were a bunch of nits that hadn't been combed out.  Anyway, I started this a month ago and they haven't been back.  The nits all just dried out and rinsed down the drain eventually.  No new bugs, nymphs, nothing.  Good for single girls like me that want to keep their long hair.

  3.  There are places that specialize.  Check out what is available in your city.  The one I know of uses a natural no chemical product that really works.  I wish it had been around when my kids had lice 15 years ago.  Pick nits every single day if you don't have such a place

  4. IDIOTS!!!!!  DON'T USE ANY TYPE OF ANIMAL SHAMPOO ON YOUR CHILD!!!!!!!   I wish there was an easy way to get rid of lice and the nits but there is NOT.  You have to use the lice/nit combs on small sections of the hair in a well lit area.  And for the nits that are hard to get out you have to pull them out by hand or just simply cut that strand of hair.  And you keep rechecking every day.  And of course wash and vacumm.

  5. Use an electric hot comb. It can it can close to the scalp. Use it every day for a week.

  6. flatiron can kill lice but not in a easy way try this what i found today is if you have finger nails and if you scrub your scalp hard enough and you hot water you can get them out. apply regular shampoo and conditioner and youll be fine [i hope lol]good luck hope this helps [winks].

  7. yes using a flatiron kills the nits.  also there is a dog and cat shampoo that will kill the lice much better than the products that you get from a drugstore or walmart store.  wash with it according to directions. you leave on hair for 10 minutes, then you rinse out and use another type of shampoo preferably something with tea tree oil. then you use on a daily basis a leave in conditioner as this will suffocate the live lice and help keep any new nits off hair until you have them out.  this usually takes 1 time only.  if you sit your child on a white sheet while blow drying hair you will see the dead lice and nits come out. you can also buy the permetrin at your local hardware store so you can mix it stronger than what you buy at drugstore, just open a window and spray away.

  8. Wow... what idiots on this board. First of all, Flat irons most certainly CAN kill some lice and their eggs.  You will have to get VERY close to your scalp and it will half to be held there for a several seconds in every area of your head.  It is not the bet method, but yes, the heat CAN kill them.  Please do NOT wash your hair with CAT shampoo (moron).  The best way to get rid of lice is to use olive oil or conditioner and with a lice comb diligently comb every section every day or two for a month.  Lice shampoo MAY kill the live lice, but will NOT kill eggs.  Its the eggs that are most important to get out.
