Question:

Will using a lawyer for a pending immigration case, make the process go faster?

I filed an application so that my husband could become a U.S resident in April of this year. One of his friends also files the application for her husband at the same time, only she did through a lawyer. And her husband already has his residence card. Our case is still pending, so i'm wondering if a lawyer really does make a difference in processing times.....

  1. No, lawyers do not make the process any faster, strictly speaking.

What they do is ensure the forms are filled out properly and all the required accompanying documentation is provided to the government for processing.

Not providing the necessary documentation may delay processing, and that is where lawyers may have an indirect effect.

But by themselves, lawyers do not and cannot make immigration cases any faster.

Each case is individual so you cannot use the case of somebody you know as a benchmark for your own.

Green cards can take years to be granted in some rare cases, although usually they are approved within one year of applying. Mine took 7 months.

  2. if the lawyer they used is accustomed to this then he'll probably know ways to speed it up or could even be familiar with people in the office so yeah, using the RIGHT lawyer will always help you.

I know it's too late know but this http://locate-lawyer.info/ would have been my secret weapon, with this company when you get a lawyer, that's because they are familiar with the area of law you are interested in, and you get to check them all out and choose who you go with. Basically, tons better to get a lawyer this way. They give you a quote of their price as well.

  3. yes... if you want it to be fast the lawyer will be needed...
