Will using sheetrock of let's say 5/8" instead of 1/2" make much of a difference in average rooms of a home?

  1. I have done quite a bit of sheetrocking lately and one difference i've noted is that the thinner the sheetrock the more it will conture to the studs, so if your studs are bent or have imperfections they will show up as humps or ridges in the finished wall. The thicker the sheetrock the more it will help to move the studs and make your walls smoother. If you have really bad studs they can even crack or break thru thin sheetrock

  2. Only to your pocketbook. Thicker is more expensive.
