I downloaded a 8.8gb file, lets say its 9gb, will they throttle my speed, as my computer was on all night downloading it, and there is 461mb left to download, wich is ok as the downoad speed is between 100 and 250kbps, and i have 10mb connection. So will they throttle my speed?, because it downloaded most of it during between 1am and 10am

Thanks

  1. All providers "throttle" speeds to some degree or another. In your case, the speed was probably controlled by the P2P network rather than virgin, but from your end, it's pretty hard to tell where the "throttling" actually took place

  2. well i download a lot believe me. I find that they will put a strangle hold on your bandwidth but only for a short time.

i feel like that the longer you download then the longer they throttle you.

could be days, but not much longer.

mind tho, we started getting big bills, so i think after about 8GB a month they will secretly be charging you extra! they r very sly!

  3. Yes downloading that amount in one go is considered unfair usage under the fair usage policy. I only use 8/9 Gb a month and I'm on 12 hours a day 7 days a week. ANY ISP would consider that unfair usage.
