  1. It will not necessarily speed up your system, it takes more of your ram to run Vista, hopefully your machine is 64 bit as a quad core chip is really wasted on a 32 bit machine, using 32bit Vista your computer will only see 3,25 gb of memory, if you can install 64 bit Vista then do so as you can then run as much memory as your mother board will allow.  You can buy more memory from a company like Cruciple who are very reasonable cost wise. they even have a program to download which will tell you what memory chips you need.

However before doing any of that defrag your system and get rid of any temporary files you do not need

  2. The specs on your computer look great to me. Vista will not speed your system up, however.

1- go to "my computer" and right click on your "C" drive and see what your capacity use is. With the size of your HD you shouldn't be near full, but possibly you need to do some cleanup

2- go to disk cleanup and see if there are any areas you can clean out. Internet cache is a repository for getting things we don't need to run all the time

3- It's possible you need to defrag. The age of your computer being so new more than likely very little if any is required. But I'd check this anyway.

4- make sure you don't have spyware/virus slowing system down

5- run msconfig, go to to "startup" tab and see what is starting up with your system. There are most likely a lot of systems there that could be disabled from startup. Some of your games systems may be loaded into this area e.g. And they don't need to be in startup because once you access the game they'll function properly anyway.

6- If you do switch to vista, DON'T buy the 64-bit version yet. 64-bit vista is not compatible with 32-bit drivers. You're running XP so everything is going to be 32-bit. This means you'd have to find a 64-bit driver for every single thing on your computer (every device and yes all of your games will be in jeopardy)

My suggestion is stick with your current system as is in so far as Vista vs XP.

  3. If your computer is running slower, its not because of your operating system.  There are several things you can do to speed up your pc again.  One is there is a free program called ccleaner.  I recommend downloading and running that program.  That deletes all temperary files that slow your system down. You also may want to check and see if you need to defrag your hard drive.  This is system you would do right before you go to bed since it takes a while to perform and you don't want to be using the pc while performing the operation. Do this by opening my computer, right click on c drive, and select tools.  Then defrag.  It will check your system to see if you need a defrag or not.

  4. Actually no, installing Vista will have a negative effect. Since you are using it for gaming mainly, XP is the best OS for you, Vista just takes up too much memory. you'd want about 8GB RAM to do gaming on Vista.

To speed up your computer and free up space and memory for free:

Go to the Start Menu> Run

    Type in "appwiz.cpl"

    Uninstall whatever you don't need.

Next, go to Start> Run and type in "msconfig".

Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck everything you don't want to startup. If you want, you can uncheck everything, and your anti-virus will still restart itself when you log on.

Now go to My Computer> Hard Drive> Documents and Settings> [USER NAME]> Local Settings> and delete everything inside the Temp Folder. (This is a hidden folder so you will need to have "show hidden files and folders" checked in Folder Options) All the files in this folder are just temporary files that your Internet stored for certain websites.

Next, you should install CCleaner, it will get rid of alot of temporary files on your computer. It also has a registry repair system, which is easily the best free one available on the Internet:

Another option is to try defragmenting your computer.

Go to the Start Menu and go to All Programs

Go to Accessories and System Tools.

Choose Disk Defragmenter and when it loads click defragment.

Next, go to Device Manger (Start> RightClick My Computer> Properties> Hardware Tab> Device Manager) and expand all listings. Now rightclick and update all drivers.

Another thing I would say is to compress your files if you already haven't.

Open My Computer and right click on your hard drive

Check the Compress Drive button and let it do it's thing.

Finally, make sure your Hard Drive doesn't have any bad sectors. Go to My Computer> Right Click Hard Drive> Properties> Tools Tab> Check Now> Check both boxes and Start. It will ask you to reboot, so reboot. This will clear out any bad sectors on your Hard Drive.

These are short-term solutions however. the easiest way is to just upgrade the RAM on your system, but at least the ways above are free.

Also, there are a few differences between the two types. x64 can run twice as many colours than x32, giving a much better looking image than you would be used to. Also, performance-wise, x64 is much faster than x32, and the difference is immediately noticable. Besides that, on an x32 system, the max amount of RAM that can be installed is 4GB, whereas on Vista Ultimate x64, you can have 128GB.

The main disadvantage of x64 (on XP mainly though) was that alot of programs still aren't compatible, deciding to stay with x32 for a little while longer. But seeing as Vista is primarily an x64 system, that problem won't be around much longer.

    Hope that helps=]

  5. NO.

While your system is capable of running Vista smoothly, it will not be faster than XP.

  6. you have a powerful gaming machine, DON'T ruin it!!!

Vista will absolutely slow your computer as it consumes a lot of RAM

stay with XP until you are forced to change to Vista.

  7. Dx h**l no, stick with XP for sure. If you did happen to get Vista, you would need to get x64 version to make full use of your RAM as the x86 version only supports up to 3GB (give or take) RAM.

  8. It is safe to say with your current setup, XP will be the better choice as far as performance goes.  Don't even think about going to Vista!

  9. ya vista is great with sp1 installed and ya it will speed up ur system it boots up more quicker than XP and i've got vista running faster than xp on the specs below

core2duo 2.4ghz Nvidia geforce 7100 gs 160 gb harddrive 2gb ram so ur specs are almost double these so why did u get xp in the first place

  10. no just the reverse, vista is a resourcse hog and will be slower then the same computer running xp.  while vista 64 will be much faster than the regular vista, and allot more secure, there isnt enough over the counter software yet to buy vista 64, if you can maybe wait a yr by then there will be allot more 64 bit software that wiill work with vista 64.  i have 3 computers and one of them is vista business 64, and the only over the counter software that runs on 64 are microsoft products, and custom made softeware.  in a yr there will be many over the counter software compatible with 64 because the regular vista pushed computer hardware to its max, and inorder to go beyond the 4 gig limitation, u need a 64 bit operating system

  11. YES,

you can use vista 64 bit for speed up your pc.

vista 64 bit process your data 64 bit 64 bit and your pc with this information can support this windows.

  12. Well... Its not that Vista will make your PC fast..

It requires additional resources like RAM and other stuff...

Comparing with XP, Vista requires more RAM and processing power and graphics...

Your PC has the feature of withstanding Vista... Go and grab 64-bit vista...  :)

  13. 1. First, run a scandisk or checkdisk. Let Windows fix any errors.

    2. Run a disk cleanup utility...this will flush your temporary internet folder, trash can, temp system files,

    etc.

    3. Delete any garbage files or data...if possible, run a Duplicate File Finder program........
