Will water get moldy in a canteen?

i know this sounds stupid. i poured water in it now that its empty but still wet inside will it get moldy if i close it and put it away. and how long would it take for the water to get moldy if it was full

Just leave the cap off of it till it gets dry.  You can always wash it out before you use it again.  I have had unused refrigerated water go bad & taste like mold.

put some salt in it with water , leave a few hours and rinse out with hot water,when you wish to use it again repeat the salt process

The water will not get moldy unless there is sometime of food such as a good amount of dust or other material for the mold to feed on. Water and a dark place is not enough to develop mold. Now the canteen can smell musky and stale if there is a little water in it when you put the lid back on.

My advice would be to wash it out real good with hot water and soap and let it dry on the counter. Once clean and dry close it and store. When you are ready to use it again just rinse with hot water and some soap and you should be good to go.
