Question:

Will we do it to Canadians?

A new immigration law will make it a felony to be here illegally. Up until now Mexicans were simply flown or driven back to Mexico and everyone was upset about the cost. When Canadians overstayed their allotted time and were caught, they were asked to leave.

If we put them all in prison then we have to feed and give them medical examinations, including glasses and dental work and then send them back.

Are we going to do the same to Canadians that are late returning to Canada? Will the law apply to wealthy Saudis and Kuwaitis that are notorious for overstaying their visas? Saudis, Kuwaitis and Egyptians made up the suicide terrorists on 9/11.

Will overstayed student visas be treated as felons and if not, why not? Most of the terrorists were using student visas.

Should other countries do that to Americans that overstay?.

  1. I see your point. Let me add that the people that overstay there visa are overwhelmingly from south of the border. Canadians are not a threat to our US American way of life. Southern illegals do not respect our borders, laws, language, culture, and in alot of cases have no interest in being US Americans. I believe if we halted all of the social programs, welfare, health-care, and government stipends that are directed towards them they would go home. I also am of the mind that people of certain cultures, religions, countries be thoroughly examined and continually watched to ensure the safety of the USA's way of life. I don't feel that Canadians are a threat like Muslim extremists are. I didn't know but I'm glad its a felony.

  2. Should other countries do that to Americans that overstay?.

    YES YES YES

  3. Since middle America is ignorant, I would say this will probably pass.....

  4. In my opinion, making illegal immigrants with no prior history of violent crimes or illegal drug convictions into felons and subjecting them to prison time is cruel and unusual punishment and will only further crowd our already maxed out prison system, not to mention the cost of feeding them and medical provision.  I do agree that illegals that are violent criminals or that are part of violent gangs be imprisoned and dealt with harshly to the full extent of the law.

As for Canadians - well it doesn't really matter if the illegal is from Canada or from Timbuktu, they're illegal so it doesn't make their country of origin a mitigating circumstance.

However, granted that the 9/11 terrorists had indeed been from the middle east, the country of origin has to raise a red flag at least as far as the extent to which the subject's background has to be scrutinized should that person prove to have prior history or has acted in a suspicious manner.  We should however be very careful about making prejudicial assumptions based solely on racial stereotype or a person's nationality.  A majority of Saudis, Kuwaitis, and Egyptians are peace loving people and as Americans we should never forget this lest we be subject to the same treatment when we're overseas.

  5. What about Muslim Canadians - there are plenty of us....
