  1. I don't think it's possible (of course except for going forward at the normal rate.)  Time is just too intangible.

  2. If we are ever able to travel in time, it is already happening.

Time travelers from the future have already been here.

    History has already been changed.

  3. Probably not, considering that if future us could travel in time, they'd have come back to tell us. I dunno, time can be so wibbley wobbley, timey wimey. Now my brain hurts.

  4. I travel into the furure all of the time.when I startwd it was 1940 now it's 2008.

  5. ever is a very long time.

i hope so. if the physicists and engineers can build it,

the hard part will be dealing with the verb tenses.

  6. We already can.  I just came back from the year 2200.  The Cubs still had not won a World Series !

  7. are we ever not traveling in time?

  8. absolutely! But we are limited to only travel in "present" time. I traveled to Kansas City in present time just recently.

  9. yes.  if you vote for obama the us will retreat quickly back into the carter years.

  10. I doubt. If u think about it time is really really complicated.

    But anythings possible :)

  11. Time traveling won't be invented in my life time.  If it were I'd have stolen it and made myself emperor by know.

  12. I am only just now realizing how many unimaginative people there are in the internet!

First of all, there have already been successful experiments on traveling to the future (although in very minute scale--fractions of fractions of seconds). It's simply a question of how to power time travelers to reach the speed of light.

On the other hand, people believe time travel (to the past) is not possible because if it was, we would have seen people from the future already. But that's a simplistic answer. If that were true scientists would no longer bother with time travel at all, right?

There are other things to consider. One reason is that our time travelers may just be waiting for the right time to travel to so they don't have to go repoeatedly and at random (which may s***w the universe up by sheer repetition). They could be waiting for something like:

  13. Wormholes could be a mothod for time travel.

  14. no because we would now about it

  15. If we could in the future, then we always have been able to. People from the future could come to the past and show us how to do it. The fact that we are not overrun by visitors from the future is pretty good evidence that it is impossible. Not proof, but good evidence.

  16. unlikely but not impossible....only an arrogant person would say impossible.....yet as unlikely as it may be...dr. einstein said that he didn't think that actual time travel would be possible but he believed that time viewing would be absolutely possible.

  17. Only backwards and only as far back as the time machine was invented. As for forward travel, we are travelling forward al the time.

It is too presumptious of Morgan F to state categorically no.

There has been a lot of scientific thought put into this, and not all options have been closed.

  18. No. Time travel will never be possible. Just thinking about it is mind boggling. There are too many things that could destroy the future (being the present time) and it simply could never work, regardless of how advanced technology could ever become.

  19. We might since before the TV was created people thought it was impossible to do something like that

And if we did, it might be bad since we might kill Hitler in the past, and just play red alert to find out what might happen if we did something like that.

It would almost certainly get abused if we did.

  20. I hope not.

Anyway, time isn't a 'thing'. It has no shape or mass. Time is merely a word.

  21. every day past is traveling in time, friend...oh you wanna go fast?

  22. In time for what?

    Sorry. Had to be asked!

Now for the real answer. Firstly, time is not serial. Try not to imagine it as a straight line. The past back there, the future up there, the present here. Neither does time exist on its own. It is a component of the space-time continuum. As speed increases (travel through space) time slows down. This has been proved using atomic clocks on jet planes travelling at different speeds around the earth. So conceivably, if we could reach speeds approaching the speed of light, we could travel in time.

However, practical time travel is not, as far as we know, possible. But that is not to say it never will be. As we unravel the mysteries of our universe, we may discover the secret of time travel. But for those who have ideas of going back to kill Hitler, this may not be possible as there will almost certainly be physical laws preventing such interventions. Just as we pot a snooker ball into a corner pocket, that is where we find it. It does not appear in a side pocket because there are physical laws describing its path and preventing such an event. (though quantum physicists may have something to say about that!)

So time travel is unlikely. Intervening and changing history, even less likely. But never say never. Supposing somebody did travel in time and change history? How would we know? The changed history would become our history. Or if somebody had gone back to kill Hitler, equally somebody may have gone back to prevent it. Thus, nothing changed.

Oh well, back to the asylum!

  23. of course we will. i have just come back from 1898 where i had a nice girly chat with Queen Elizabeth.

i actually built this time machine myself it looks like an ordinary hairdryer but it blasts me into the past. you can call me doctor who. mrs doctor who

  24. I hope so, I mean we probly already could. The government has a whole bunch of secrets that they don't really reveal. I mean imagine all the controversary, if they revealed that they have figured out time travel. And have already built a machine. As smart as we are, there would probly be a war over it, rather than trying to embrace it, and explore it.

  25. This is a topic that many people believe differently about. However, I myself, think it will be possible someday, or it might be possible and nobody may discover it.

  26. Maybe, but it will be hundreds, if not thousands of years before it can be possible.

  27. I can, wanna buy a ticket?  :^ ]

  28. I can take you to the time machine .... .. its by costco.

I once smacked somebody into last week.

  29. if we ever figure out how wormholes work then it might be possible
